It’s been 2 months since the legendary Tina Turner passed away, leaving a big, queen-sized hole in our hearts. Gone, but not forgotten.
The “Queen of Rock n’ Roll” didn’t get that title without good reason. Now is as good a time as ever to look back on the impact she had on us while she was still here.
And one Tina Turner moment that people are looking back on is her crazy duet with Cher.
Tina Turner was known for a lot of things. Some of them include swagger, confidence, killer stage presence, and one hell of a voice.
She performed for over 50 years, earning the title of a legend.
Among other things, Turner also reminded people that rock and roll was an African-American creation. In case anyone forgot, her powerhouse vocals were there to remind them.
This video of Turner from decades ago was posted by someone on Twitter.
It may be one of the campiest performances you’ll ever see – and Turner is one of the few who can make camp work so well. The other one is Cher. So this duet is a match made in heaven, don’t you think?
They’re performing “Shame, Shame, Shame”, a disco soul track written by Sylvia Robinson and performed by Shirley and Company.
At the start of the video, Turner is all by herself. To be fair, she could sing the whole thing solo if she wanted and it would still be fantastic.
But when you’ve got the chance to perform with one of your closest friends, why not do it?
Cher joins her friend on stage after not so long.
She’s dressed for the theme too – a campy, colorful dress like the one Turner is wearing.
Together, they belt out the bridge and the chorus like two friends on karaoke.
Cher visited Turner shortly before her death earlier this year. According to Cher, Turner was rather happy despite how sick she was.
Turner battled high-blood pressure, dialysis, and cancer for years. The queen of rock n’ roll had a lot on her. I would be surprised to find her that happy too.
But I suppose her spirits were just higher than we thought.
“I started going to visit her because I thought, ‘I need to put this time into our friendship, so she knows we haven’t forgotten her.” said Cher
Tina Turner fought long and hard before her illnesses finally caught up to her.
She’s had hypertension since 1978 and had a stroke shortly after her wedding.
With that much to deal with, true friends can mean so much more.
Her condition improved a bit after a kidney transplant from her husband, but she was still largely ill.
Even though she’s not with us anymore, we’ll always have her music to remind us what a legend she was.
There’s a reason she has a stage musical about her, you know.
