The men and women that serve in our military are giving us the greatest gift of all, and sometimes it’s good to remember that and recognize their service.
These men and women put their lives on the line for our freedom and safety. They put their bodies through rigorous training, and they spend months at a time away from their family and friends. Can you imagine what it’s like to be so far away from your loved ones for months at a time? It’s got to be even more painful emotionally than the physical stresses.
Drill sergeants have the reputation for being very strict. They are, after all, the ones who call out the orders for the unit to follow. Without the drill sergeant’s rigid attitude, there’s no way the unit would be able to function with as much precision as is needed.
With all the stress and pressures of training, it can really make a huge difference to let loose every now and again. A good leader knows that there are necessary times and places for a little bit of fun. In order to keep spirits up, taking the time to live a little and have silly moments is a necessary practice.
This unit knows how to do just that.
When it came time to run some morning drills, they thought that they’d change things up a little bit.
It all starts out pretty normal, with the men and women marching to the standard call of “left, left.” But soon enough, you start to hear the sergeant calling out orders that you don’t typically hear. And it’s so refreshing to see!
The funniest part is that the drill sergeant says these silly orders with his typical serious tone. It’s funny to hear his raspy voice calling out for the troops to “Matrix” as Neo did in the movie.
This video was posted 11 years ago, which explains the dated movie reference, but it still holds up today! There are a lot of terrible things going on in the world these days, and it’s little things like this that remind you to look at the good things that you do have.
Some people might think that this is unprofessional, or not appropriate for the military to participate in. But what’s the problem with living a little? These brave men and women are just that: they’re people with senses of humor and the urge to release their inner children. Why not grant them permission to dance a little during their morning drill routine?
After everything they’ve done for us here at home, they certainly deserve to blow off some steam and to crack a smile.

“I haven’t served but I come from a military family. I think that was funny! Live a little when you can.”
