Dolly Parton is America’s treasure. Between her impeccable songwriting, her sweet as a peach personality, and that gorgeous voice of hers, there’s really not anything bad that you can say about Dolly!
Not everyone knows that Dolly started out as a songwriter for other musicians before launching her own career as an artist herself. She’s the living and breathing example of someone coming up from nothing and making a name for herself. It’s not that she had a bad childhood, but she was one of 12 children that grew up in a tiny cabin… certainly a far cry from her lifestyle these days.
That doesn’t make her any less her humble self, though. She knows where she came from and is generous and grounded even with her mountains of riches of 500 million dollars, according to AOL.
All of that money came from her own hard work and natural talent, and she deserves every bit of it!
“Jolene” is one of her most popular songs to date. There’s something about the way it drives along and the way the melody floats that makes it irresistible. So many musicians have done covers of it since it was released in 1973, including the likes of the Pentatonix and Miley Cyrus, her very own goddaughter.
Dolly’s not the only talented one in the family. Her goddaughter, Miley Cyrus, had also been in the spotlight from a very young age. Starting off as a Disney channel star on Hannah Montana, she’s made quite the name for herself as a musician and pop icon as well.
There’s been a fair share of controversy around Miley’s choices throughout the years, but Dolly has stuck by her side the whole time. That’s the mark of a great relationship and a great family.
Dolly and Miley have sung this song together on multiple occasions, but there’s something very heartwarming about this performance. Miley is so young in it and hasn’t yet made quite the huge name for herself that she has now.
The two are playful with each other while they sing through the words, letting a little bit of banter slip through.
This is just such an endearing performance, one that’s untouched by any kind of diva attitude or flashy glitz and glamor. This is just a lovely woman and her goddaughter sharing a moment together as if it were in their own backyard.
Some of the YouTube comments sum up the performance pretty well, saying,
“IM GETTING CHILLS! I usually hate it when some people cover original songs or there is a collab because it always seems like the original is too good, but this was a new take and it was gorgeous”
And,
“This is what Miley was born to do, well done Godmother Dolly!”
What do you think of this performance? Sure, there are others that have taken place on a bigger stage, and others that have taken place in front of a bigger audience, but the simplicity of this one is really able to showcase the true spirit of the song and the two women who are singing it.
