“You’re cut off.”
Those aren’t necessarily the most pleasant three words in the English language, but certainly ones we need to hear from time to time. And if they’re coming from someone you trust, you feel even more compelled to listen.
Sometimes, though, the words don’t even need to be uttered for the message to come across loud and clear. Just a light tap on the wrist as you reach for another can be a sharp reminder that, hey, maybe I’m good for the evening.
This person of leisure enjoys a glass of wine from time to time, as many people do, but their friend Jackson keeps a sharp eye on how much they’re pouring. When Jackson determines they’ve had enough, he gives them just a friendly but firm tap on the wrist if they reach for the bottle.
A helpful guy, that Jackson. Did I mention he’s a dog?
Yes, Jackson the dog is your friend in need. If you reach for one too many, he’s got your back. You’ve got work in the morning, remember. Tomorrow is going to come very quickly and you’re much better off putting the cork in this one, he advises.
What a pal.
Who’s to say Jackson didn’t run with a rough crowd in his younger days? Maybe he’s seen some things. I think it’s safe to say you ought to listen to the old boy if he’s giving you the side eye.
Jackson’s owner was quite amused by the dog’s adherence to a responsible lifestyle. And I’m sure they were thanking him the following morning.
