Though performing on reality competition shows is often in pursuit of an individual dream, sometimes it takes a whole group.

Regardless of who we are, there are a whole lot of people behind the scenes that go into our success. Whether it’s our partners, our families or other helpers behind the scenes. Though sometimes we get to take credit for our amazing accomplishments on our own, it pays to remember that it often takes a lot of people to make a dream come true.

This performance on America’s Got Talent showed just how true that was all too clearly.

The performers in question were the Detroit Youth Choir, a group much larger than the judges are used to seeing on the show!

Before they even come out onstage, the group speaks to Terry Crews backstage about where they come from and what the performance means to them.

After that, Crews reveals that he’s from Flint, Michigan and they share a moment of solidarity. After explaining that the choir is a way for all the kids from Detroit to find a positive outlet, Crews gives them a positive pep talk.

With that, the group takes the stage—and there are a ton of them!

Needless to say, the first thing that shocks the audience and the judges is just how many people are onstage in front of them.

After a moment, the group introduces themselves and explains a little bit about where they come from.

After a moment, Simon asks if their choir director is strict… and one of the children says yes. Although a choir has never won the show overall, the director replies that they can be the first.

With all that out of the way, they start their performance.

At the beginning, all the kids start singing along to “Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.

Before it picks up, the music starts off slowly and gradually builds and builds until the audience is cheering. After that, it’s like a dam breaks in the choir’s energy and everything gets turned up a notch!

Everyone onstage starts dancing while people come out to rap different parts of the song one by one. By this point in the performance, everyone is cheering along and the judges are smiling.

Still, the performance isn’t quite over.

After that, a few of the children come out and do some awesome vocal solos.

After it’s all over, the entire choir hits a pose together—and the crowd goes wild. Although everyone in the crowd is clearly loving this group, it seems like Terry Crews is particularly touched by the performance.

After the judges give a few comments and are about to vote, Crews walks onstage and interrupts. With tears in his eyes, Crews explains that everyone onstage represents him and where he came from. In the middle of his speech, everyone in the choir has tears in their eyes as well.

After that, Crews says there’s only one thing left he has to do… and the crowd goes wild.

Crews walk over to the judge’s table and explains that it only takes one person to believe in you.

With that, he smashes the Golden Buzzer and everyone onstage is jumping up and down celebrating! Performances like this one show why America’s Got Talent means so much to so many people. Aside from being an entertaining show for all of us at home, it often means a life-changing break for the people onstage. Though everyone deserves a chance to follow their dreams, few people deserve it as much as these kids do.
