When you were younger, what was your favorite part about being in school?
For some people, it was all the fun times you would have with your friends at recess. For others, it was the time they got to spend making art or playing music in those classes.
For others still, maybe it was the actual material that got taught in hard classes like math and history (for very few, we’re guessing). No matter what your preference, most people can probably agree that the school talent show days were a nice break from the usual activity.
And in the age of YouTube, a lot of the best school talent show performances get shared with the whole world!
At least, that’s certainly the case with the video we’re talking about today.
The clip was put on YouTube in May 2016 and was uploaded by a channel called DeCory.
Though he’s not a household name as of yet, DeCory is a channel run by DeCory Brown, a talented singer and performer from Houston, Texas. Though he’s only 16 years old, Brown has been performing and making news since he was even younger than that.
And one of his first claims to fame was a video from Memorial High School in Houston.
As the video begins, DeCory stands on the edge of the stage in a Michael Jackson-inspired outfit.
Before long, he walks to the middle of the stage and strikes a pose. Sure enough, “Billie Jean” by Michael Jackson starts playing a moment later… and DeCory starts breaking out some truly incredible choreography.
As if his moves weren’t good enough, next he walks up to the microphone and pulls it out of the stand and starts singing along as well!
Although his dancing was great, his singing takes the performance to a whole new level!
As he hits the chorus, his voice soars and he truly embodies the spirit of Michael Jackson!
After doing a little more singing, DeCory takes some time out to let the dancing speak for itself. First, he does a perfect moonwalk backwards into a spin—and the crowd goes wild!
A moment later, he adds a new twist to it by doing the moonwalk sideways as well! The whole time, the crowd cheers so loudly that it’s hard to even hear him singing. After a few more flourishes, he strikes a pose and the performance is over.
With that, the crowd gives him another huge round of applause!
Since the clip went online, it has been viewed more than five million times—but DeCory has gotten other online attention as well.
