If there is one certainty in life, it’s that the popular television show America’s Got Talent is full of extraordinary, funny and astonishing auditions. Singer Mandy Harvey was the highlight of the latest episode, who simply wowed the judges and the large audience with her crisp and incredibly clear voice.

Singing is incredibly difficult for Mandy because she’s deaf and can’t hear her own voice.

When Mandy walked up on the stage, the judges were greeted by an interpreter which would translate what the judges would say in sign language, although Mandy herself bravely talked and answered the judges’ questions.

“I lost all my hearing when I was 18-years-old.”

When Simon Cowell asks how old she is now, Mandy said she was 29-years-old. Mandy had been dealing with her loss of hearing for a little over ten years. Simon then politely asked how she lost her hearing.

“I have a connective tissue disorder, so basically, I got sick and my nerves deteriorated.”

As if performing on the stage of the country’s largest talent show wasn’t courageous enough, she also mentions that she had left music altogether when she lost her hearing, but she decided to keep going by using muscle memory, visual tuners and the vibrations of the sound waves.

“After I lost my hearing, I just gave up. But I want to do more with my life than just give up.”

Mandy took off her shoes on the stage in order for her to fully feel all the vibrations and interact with the music as good as possible. And we must say, she does that excellently.

The young woman performed a beautiful song she wrote herself, “Try”. She also played the ukelele and it blended in brilliantly with the heartfelt lyrics about Mandy’s story.

After the stunning performance, Mandy had almost everyone in the room in tears. She received a well-deserved standing ovation and blew the roof off the place.

The usually quite strict Simon Cowell said the following about her audition:

“That was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen or heard. I don’t think you’re going to need a translator for this.”

Immediately after, Simon hit the Golden Buzzer and gave Mandy a straight ticket to the America’s Got Talent live shows. Mandy and her father were quite overwhelmed and teared up a little bit, but she was absolutely overjoyed by the reaction of the judges and the audience.

Hundreds of viewers across social media were clearly also affected by Mandy’s fantastic performance.

What an incredible voice and proof that truly nothing can hold you back from achieving your dreams.
