America’s Got Talent premiered on May 30, 2017, for its twelfth season, and the show started off with a huge bang.
12-year-old Darci Lynne Farmer from Oklahoma City walked on stage with her rabbit puppet, Petunia. She was prepared to perform a ventriloquist act for the judges.
But Darci’s ventriloquist performance wasn’t your typical one. Instead of doing a stand-up routine like most ventriloquists, Darci had something else planned.
Holding Petunia in her right hand, Petunia began to sing a stunning rendition of “Summertime,” much to the surprise of all the judges.
None of the judges nor audience members could believe this 12-year-old could sing so beautifully while holding a smile on her face. She completely won the judges over.
Judge Howie Mandel said, “I believe that that rabbit is a real separate person. I love you. I believe you’re gonna go far. You just changed your life tonight, young lady.”
Simon Cowell added, “We had an act early on, who were very good but I’m not gonna remember them in an hour. I’m gonna remember you in a week, in a month, in a year. You’re both brilliant and when you’ve got it, you’ve got it.”
Then Mel B awarded Darci with the golden buzzer. It was so well-deserved!
People all over the Internet echoed the judges’ sentiment.
