Officer Sirdarius Rashod Benton is a Georgia cop with a big heart and some pretty sweet dance skills. Like countless others, he decided to take on “The Git Up Challenge,” showing everyone his version of the “cowboy” routine.
While many have joined in on the dance craze – Benton’s video ended up going viral!
Not only has he won over the internet, but his moves are leaving a smile on viewers’ faces too.
During the summer of 2019, Blanco Brown’s “The Git Up” inspired people all over to participate in the challenge that accompanied the track.
It was easy, all you had to do was follow the artist’s fun line-dancing steps and record yourself while doing so. Yet, even though the routine’s the same – each video has its own flavor because of different factors. We’ve seen a horse do the “Git Up” (with his trainer, of course), parents, medical professionals, kids, cops – you name it.
“The Git Up” isn’t your typical song either. It’s in the unique genre of country-rap similar to Lil Nas X’ “Old Town Road.”
Some of the lyrics in Brown’s song ask for the dancer to do the “cowboy boogie,” “hoedown,” “butterfly,” and the “slip and slide.” The musician created a tutorial for internet users, and he also released a music video that’s gathered more than 50 million views in six months. It’s just that good.
Officer Benton is a family man with a great sense of humor (just check out the other videos he has on social media). Apparently, he’s also a guy who’s not going to turn down a dance challenge either!
Prepare for pure entertainment as Benton (aka the dancing cop) gets down to Blanco Brown’s “The Git Up.”
He’s wearing his uniform, sunglasses, and a big grin throughout it all. One viewer commented:
“I could watch this video 1000 times. So great to see a police officer having fun and he is very good. Stay safe out there.”
Although anyone can do The Git Up Challenge, Officer Benton’s obviously a really awesome dancer. Just wait until you see his smooth cowboy moves.
He does the hoedown like he’s been practicing it for years, and is pretty good with his lasso too. Most of all though, his positive spirit really shines through!
The Henry County cop adds some of his own uniqueness to the routine as well, with an arm wave and a Michael Jackson toe stand. Can you say points for creativity?
Another viewer wrote:
“Best dancer I’ve seen so far to this song! Haha :)”
After Officer Benton’s “Git Up” dance video was uploaded to the internet (the second step of the challenge) it spread like wildfire. It’s been viewed millions of times online and was even covered by the news.
Several weeks after creating the video, Officer Benton posted the following positive message on his Facebook page.
“A grateful good morning everyone‼️ Today I am grateful for seeing the video I made a few weeks back reach so many people in different communities NATIONWIDE‼️ … It brings joy, peace, and people together. That’s all I ever wanted to do with these videos I make. Not to become famous, but to bring law enforcement & communities together. Showing a different side of law enforcement helps bridge that gap and starts to form a bond between us.”
