When it comes to competitions, talent will get you far but creativity will get you that boost to stardom.
After all, what is talent but the realization of one’s imagination?
On the recently concluded UCWDC or the United Country Western Dance Council Worlds 2023 Masters Showcase, a team left the audience in awe, thanks to an electrifying performance.
Ronnie DeBenedetta and Bernadette Carmichael graced the stage, dancers with a lot of passion, talent, and creativity.
Their breathtaking routine, filled with athleticism and a touch of humor showcased the duo’s exceptional talent and the seamless fusion of different dance styles.
The performance began with a unique and unexpected element – the appearance of a bookshelf and chairs dragged into the center stage.
People were left in confusion and anticipation.
As Bernadette Carmichael playfully pretended to shop for romance books, the audience was intrigued.
Little did they know that this creative opening would set the stage for a journey through various dance genres, each expertly executed by the talented pair.
Carmichael, with her enchanting stage presence, read her leading man, Ronnie DeBenedetta, into reality as she flipped through the pages of a romance novel.
The first character emerged as a chiseled hero on a “horse.”
The clever incorporation of props added a delightful touch to the performance, leaving the audience both amused and captivated.
Transitioning seamlessly, Carmichael delved into a Latin American-inspired chapter, where the duo unleashed a series of vibrant dance moves. Rose on the mouth? Check! Frilled sleeves? Check! Spicy moves? They’re all covered!
The choreography was characterized by snappy footwork and energetic spins, demonstrating not only their technical prowess but also their ability to embody the spirit of different dance styles with authenticity and flair.
The performance took an unexpected turn as the leading man transformed into a cowboy biker.
He came in, of course, with a vest and a hat. This segment of the routine was a testament to DeBenedetta’s acrobatic abilities, emphasizing strength and style.
The pair effortlessly executed daring lifts and spins.
The audience was captivated in their seats with their dynamic and visually stunning movements.
As the performance reached its climax, the leading man underwent a final transformation into a suave and elegant partner.

The UCWDC is the largest event for competitive Country and Line Dance genres.
The competition started around 1989 and continues until today.
Some of the genres they included were Schottische, Pony Swing, Polka, and Two Step. They also include Waltz, Cha-Cha, and the East Coast Swing.

They also said on their website that even if they’re committed to making Country dance as a competitive sport, they also wanted to make dancing accessible to as many people as possible.
