There are performing artists around the world trying to break into stardom, and thanks to the internet, we’re able to watch many of them along the way.

One jazz troupe’s performance that has caught the internet’s attention took place during a JUMP dance convention. In addition to the girls having awesome talent, the song it’s mixed with adds an extra dose of pizazz.

You can’t go wrong when it comes to the legendary British rock band, Queen.

To this day, their music is loved by fans worldwide and other vocal artists proudly cover their songs. With a quick search online, you can find countless renditions of their hits “Somebody to Love,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and “Don’t Stop Me Now” from musicians who are inspired by the group.

Freddie Mercury had a rule about covering his music though. Not long before he passed, he said:

“You can do what you want with my music, but don’t make me boring.”

Selecting a Queen song isn’t just a sure way to spice up a musical performance. We’ve seen figure skaters heat up the ice with “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and dancers rock the mega-hit with their moves.

The jazz dancers’ routine in the video below also revolves around a Queen classic. But this time, it’s “Another One Bites The Dust” that’s being interpreted. And yes, these girls manage to light the stage on fire too!

Get ready for a highly-energized jazz performance that’s topped off with black derby hats.

The troupe is made up of six dancers that come from the Project 21 dance company in California. According to the video, Raven, Perris, Gwen, Selena, Ava, and Kimberly are the girls’ names – and Molly Long is the choreographer of the routine.

When you listen to “Another One Bites The Dust” it’s difficult to not bop along. It has one of those beats that’s contagious and puts a kick in your step.

The girls’ moves blend amazingly with the tune that was released back in 1980. Each movement is dramatic, seems to match the beat, and appears to be done with great precision. It’s like watching the song come to life in a brand new way.

While it’s uncertain if their costumes are meant to have a connection to the song, the hats do help give them that “tough guy” look.

Perhaps they were chosen because of “Another One Bites The Dust” opening lines:

“Steve walks warily down the street, his brim pulled way down low…”

“Another One Bites The Dust” was written by the band’s bass guitarist, John Deacon. According to SongFacts, Mercury loved the tune.

The website shared that Brian May once told Mojo magazine:

“Freddie sung until his throat bled on Another One Bites The Dust. He was so into it. He wanted to make that song something special.”

When you listen to the track, you might typically picture the late frontman rocking out on stage wearing a yellow tank top. The girls’ dance is just another visual interpretation of the song. Quite frankly, they’re really talented performers!

Going by the video description, the Project 21 group actually took home a second-place prize for their performance at the JUMP competition. The popular dance convention tours to 26 cities in the US and also four international ones too!
