I am so impressed, what a routine.

Wayzata High School in Plymouth, Minnesota has a championship dance team that is bound to knock your socks off.

They specialize in “competitive precision high kick and jazz routines,” according to their website. And the women of the Wayzata Trojans rocked the 2019 State Championship kick routine at the Target Center in Minneapolis.

The routine

For nearly 3 minutes, these ladies manage to show off strength, flexibility, and endurance that few others can match.

After getting the go-ahead to begin their routine, they all go from standing still to striking a pose in their royal blue leotards adorned with black lace on the sides.

As they move in perfect unison across the court, they execute a few spins and a remix of Madonna’s “Vogue” rings out.

And as the lyrics say, they strike a pose like there’s nothing to it – that shows off their precision.

Of course, the real excitement comes when they get into their first kick formation.

The audience goes wild as they show off all sorts of high kicks with a few Rond de Jambe kicks thrown in.

There are plenty of other cool moves thrown in so the judges can get a good idea of posture, body control, and the accuracy of their movements.

They’re also judged on the pace of their movements – so the sped-up music really gives the whole routine a sense of urgency that makes them look like they’re moving at the speed of light.

We cannot dispute their mastery when it comes to striking a post, that’s for sure!

But in reality, that choreography is the filler before we get to more high kicks. This is the kick category of the state competition, after all!

Those angle kicks are perfection!

The victory

After seeing the whole routine, it may not come as a surprise that the team won the state kick championship that year.

And to top it off – their Jazz team routine won as well the day before, making them DOUBLE state champs!

These are some seriously dedicated young women – especially considering that their competitions take place during the school year, in February, when there’s a heavy workload as well.

But all of those practices and extra hours spent training paid off.

As for the video, plenty of people wanted the soundtrack info for their own routines, although there was some “fanmail” as well:

‘YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!! I have been waiting for this…. this is freaking epic.. im dying….. SLAYYYYY LADIES!!! hands down their best kick. even their best routine better then their best jazz…. this is giving me life……….they seriously need to do more FAST song. they excel at fast songs…..” gushed a viewer (and no doubt friend).

Oh, and in case you’re ready to dance, it’s Cesar Gamiz’s “Walk For Me” remix of Madonna’s “Vogue.”

The team

The team’s Instagram page puts a lot of emphasis on friendship and teamwork (in addition to the hard work).

Dance team tryouts happen in June and women can make the B-team or Junior varsity first if they need some more practice before joining the champs on the varsity team.
