What’s your favorite pastime?
For many, it’s kicking back and heading over to YouTube to watch mindblowing cat videos. For others, it’s all about the world of dance.
YouTube has helped bring countless performers. dancers, and choreographers to the limelight. Their videos are viewed across the world by other inspiring performers or simply those who appreciate art in all of its forms.
While some videos call for big productions on big stages and several dancers, others are much more simple. Some of the most entertaining videos are of those who practice on a small stage such as their bedrooms or even a small studio.
Anthony Lee and Vinh Nguyen of the Kinjaz Crew might be members of a large and popular dance crew but they also perform some routines in intimate spaces.
The Kinjaz Crew became well-known during the eighth season of America’s Best Dance Crew. Though they didn’t win, they were runner-up and their fanbase grew exponentially.
The audience fell in love with their smooth and precise moves. Seriously, these guys are pretty incredible.
Their success has led to their studio space, the Dojo, in Monterey Park, California where they’re able to share their knowledge with inspiring dancers with various backgrounds. Every skill level is welcome. Their website states:
“The Kinjaz Dojo offers an assortment of classes that range in skill level and style of movement… We encourage each other to not fear the unknown, or fear the process. Someone will always be better than you and someone will always have more to learn; therefore, it doesn’t matter.”
To further establish their brand, they even call their instructors as KINstructors. They truly are a “kommunity.”
In 2015, Lee and Nguyen stopped by Urban Dance Studio in Germany. The dance studio is a world-famous studio where “dance legends, youtube stars and top international choreographers from Asia, Europe, and America” come and showcase their skills.
Students also get the opportunity to learn from world-renowned dancers like Lee and Nguyen.
In the video, the duo performs a dance routine to Ed Sheeran’s, “I See Fire” for a group of students. Their performance is spectacular. There aren’t any bells and whistles. It’s simply two dancers performing in a dance studio.
The pair begin with their heads down and start things off slowly. Living up to their notoriety, their moves are intricate and calculated. It’s easy to see from the first few seconds into the video that we are in for a treat.
The song is slow as well but the guys do an amazing job knowing when to speed up certain parts of the routine, making sure to hit every syllable.
When the guitar comes in, their moves mirror the strumming. It’s fascinating to watch. The way they use their bodies to give a visual representation of what the singer is saying is mindblowing.
When Sheeran sings, “Watch the flames burn auburn…,” the guys bend over and move their arms in a fluid motion mimicking the flickering of a flame.
Not only are their moves fluid, but the camera moves just as smoothly along with them as they move about the space. The camera’s pans and zooms are so in sync with Lee and Nguyen, that they might go unnoticed at first.
But the moves are there and they’re so precise that the viewer might begin subconsciously moving with them. It’s as if you have become a part of the routine. This is no small feat!
In the end, the students are floored and toss their belongings at them. It sounds odd but it looks to be a gesture of appreciation. Lee becomes overwhelmed. He gets on the floor and graciously thanks them.
