Some daughters and their dads get along fantastically, while others may have a strained or no relationship. Some dads support their daughters in every single activity, whether it’s on the softball field or the dance floor. And sometimes, those dads are roped into volunteering their time, maybe as a coach.
Some dads are asked by their precious daughters to step out of their comfort zone and do something crazy, like dance with their daughters and other equally crazy dads on a shiny hardwood basketball court during the halftime of a wildly popular collegiate game.
Dads dancing with their daughters isn’t a new concept. There’s the traditional daddy-daughter dance at the wedding reception and the trendy daddy-daughter dances hosted by Parent-Teacher Organizations at schools for starters.
Popular father-daughter dance songs at wedding receptions or elementary school dances include Daddy’s Little Girl by Al Martino and The Mills Brothers, My Girl by The Temptations, Isn’t She Lovely by Stevie Wonder, I Loved Her First by Heartland, My Little Girl by Tim McGraw and Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle.
Some people believe the concept of daddy-daughter dances, whether it’s on the basketball court or in an elementary school gym, dates back to wartime.
Historians believe that many of the father-daughter-centric wedding traditions emerged after World War II, including a father walking his daughter down the aisle.
The talented University of Georgia Dance Dawgs is an all-female group of dancers who perform at basketball games, gymnastics meets and other UGA and community events. Every year, the squad holds tryouts as they expand their member base and ensure that they have the most skilled dancers on the team.
They even host dance clinics for little ones in the community. The 2020 squad currently hails from Georgia, Virginia, Florida, Ohio, Texas, Kentucky and West Virginia.
During one of the university’s home games, squad members paired up with their poppas to perform a fun and funky routine full of sass and the latest dance moves.
The dads are decked out in University of Georgia basketball jerseys and white T-shirts underneath, along with khaki pants and tennis shoes.
They perform to songs like “Kiki, Do You Love Me.” When they break out into free dance, the dads are hysterical to watch. They’re trying to look incredibly cool while they boogie next to their beautiful daughters.
This is an incredibly adorable routine and you can tell how excited the dads are to share the spotlight with their daughters. People who watched the video commented as to how awesome the routine was, like Jill Kohlmann Nicholas.
