Cops aren’t exactly known for their sense of humor. However, the fine men and women of the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office in Hastings, Minnesota certainly are. They responded to a Lip Sync Challenge issued by the Apple Valley Police Department and had everyone on the Internet dying of laughter.

The hilarious video that they posted on YouTube has since racked up over two million views.

It all started thanks to the Running Man Challenge.

It was a social media dance craze that inspired all sorts of normally serious individuals to act a little silly for a day. More or less, it involved doing a really goofy dance similar to the Harlem Shake to the 1996 song “My Boo” by Ghost Town DJs.

Several famous basketball players helped to make the challenge popular, and soon, it was picked up by all sorts of organizations, including police departments. One of those departments was the Apple Valley PD.

The Apple Valley PD did things a little differently.

They decided that instead of doing a pure Running Man Challenge video, they would mix it up and “come up with something else”.

“The Running Man Challenge just wasn’t in the cards for the Apple Valley Police Department,” said Officer Francis.

The creative officers invented their own challenge — “The Lip Sync Challenge”.

It showed them dancing, singing, and just generally acting ridiculous to the song “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” by The Tokens. Memorable scenes from the video include officers petting goats in a barn, riding llamas, and swaying back and forth in front of a pond while a person in a dog costume walks by.

At the end of the video, they decided to challenge the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office to make their own video as well.

They never expected that their Lip Sync Challenge would actually be taken seriously by the other law enforcement officers. However, Dakota County quickly proved that they have just as much creative talent as Apple Valley, maybe even more!

The Dakota County Sheriffs started their video with a short skit of them in the office trying to decide how to respond.

“I got it,” said one of the officers. “First question, do we have anyone in the office that can skydive?”

The scene then changed to an officer in full uniform jumping out of a plane.

However, that wasn’t enough to outdo the Apple Valley crew.

“Okay, I like it, but we have to show off all our cool vehicles and facilities we have in Dakota County,” said the Captain.

The next shot was of a man in a dog costume dancing around just like in the Apple Valley video.

However, that was just the start. Two giant warehouse doors opened in the back and a series of police vehicles came flying out.

There were officers in squad cars, SWAT vehicles, and even a big plow truck.

They all went speeding down the backroads and kicking up dust.

The department also took out a couple of their boats for a spin.

They partied and danced around on them in full dive gear.

In addition, it turns out, the officers can also do some pretty cool motorcycle tricks.

Lastly, one officer even knew how to skateboard.

He can be seen in the video cruising down a ramp and then jumping up to do a 50-50 grind on a railing.

The real highlight of the video came next though.

“You know what else Apple Valley didn’t have?” said the Captain. “A county attorney that can impersonate The King.”

When the captain said “The King”, he was referring to Elvis Presley, of course. The clip immediately switched to an attorney dressed up as Elvis with a bunch of other officers dancing behind him. They showed off some serious moves.

Then some additional officers from the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office did another dance right afterward in the county courthouse.

Even the judge was dancing.

Finally, the video ended with a mic drop. The officers completely stole the show. It’s safe to say that their response to Apple Valley PD’s Lip Sync Challenge was a big success. However, the biggest question was, who to challenge next…

“How about Washington County?” said the captain. The other officers both nodded their heads in agreement. And thus, the cycle continued.
