Including kids in performances always makes it better.
Granted, it doesn’t always contribute to the event in the way that you think it might, but that’s the fun of kids, right?
Take weddings, for example. You don’t have a 2-year-old flower girl play the part because she’s reliable – you have her do it BECAUSE she’s unreliable!
You just never know what kids are going to do!
For Doug Cameron, his kid ended up surprising him AND the audience in an astounding way.
Doug Cameron is a violinist who has risen to the highest ranks in his field. His description says:
“Doug Cameron is widely considered one of contemporary music’s preeminent violinists. With eight CDs to his credit, he is known internationally for his unique trademark style and his blue electric violin. From jazz festivals to featured performer with symphony orchestra, Doug’s experience makes him one of the most versatile and enjoyable artists working today.” – About
Doug does shows and plays with a band in front of an audience pretty regularly and people love to watch.
Most of the time, Doug is the star of the show, mostly because it’s HIS show. One time, however, he decided to have his son come up and help him.
Doug’s son, Sean, came up when his dad called him and the audience couldn’t hold in their emotion.
With “awwws” and “how cute’s” ringing out across the floor, it was clear that Sean had won them over before he ever played a note.
Doug, describing himself as a proud father, called him up, and up he came!
Little Sean walked out in his own suit with a tiny violin.
As you can imagine, it was actually TOO cute.
His suit was oversized, his violin undersized, and it was perfect. He says “hi daddy” into the microphone and explains how he is six years old.
Sean is NOT six – he’s only three! The crowd laughs as Sean cracks himself up at his own joke.
The song they are going to play is “Orange Blossom Special”.
Doug helps him get in position and little Sean gives it his absolute all.
As Doug stomps, plays, and claps, his little kid follows along and vies it his all! You just know that matching his dad play while on the stage is creating memories that he will cherish forever.
Little Sean resorts to slapping his violin with his bow at a certain point!
He seems to have forgotten his lessons from his dad while on stage. His dad corrects him and he’s back to strumming, although it doesn’t last long.
Soon, he decides to go for broke and nearly drops in a split like he’s seen rockstars on TV do!
The difference between a guitar and a violin, to a kid at least, isn’t clearly defined.
Finally, they drop down and Doug plays Smoke on the Water while his son mimics his movements – and it’s absolutely adorable.
They play for a few seconds more and after spinning and a final jump, they are done!
While Doug is a good player, we all know who the REAL star of the show is.
