Those who have family know how tough it can be.

Captain Cody Lucas can tell you all about it, as he nervously waits to see his son for the first time after a mission that lasted nine months. He came to his son’s football game to surprise him.

Captain Cody Lucas is a soldier in the United States Army—more specifically, he’s a Signal Advisor with the 1st Security Force Assistance Brigade. His son thinks that he’s on a mission in Afghanistan and can’t even imagine the surprise he’s about to get when he goes out to play football. Ty is a freshman who plays for Clemson Tigers.

Before the surprise begins, Lucas speaks briefly for the camera because he wants to film a message for his son.

He says he’s glad to know that his son is making some good friends on the team and that he’s working hard.

You can see it in his eyes how proud he is, and that he can’t wait to hug his boy. Ty went from a tough football player to his father’s kid in a second, and it’s heart-melting.

Before the surprise, dad makes his way through the crowd of people to reach the stadium entrance and decides to wait on the side.
