The art of ice skating is a sport of pure elegance and beauty.
Many professional ice skaters have proven this already, yet one particular pair of ice skaters continues to enchant people with their stunningly beautiful performance that won them a gold medal in the Olympics.
This thrilling performance came from the Pairs Free Skating finals.
The 2018 Winter Olympic Games was held in Pyeongchang, South Korea from February 9 to February 25.
This grandiose sport event featured over 102 different events in 15 disciplines and that included the ice skating competition that was held at the Gangneung Ice Arena. One of the ice skating events was the Pairs Free Skating competition, where professional figure skaters representing their country gathered to battle for gold on the icy battlefield.
Among those competitors, one pair caught the eyes of everyone as they waltzed beautifully on their stage, steadily rising up to the ranks until they reached the finals.
They were Germany’s representative at that time, Aljona Savchenko and Bruno Massot.
Sliding into the finals, this German pair stunned the crowd with their impressive performance.
The pair qualified and welcomed themselves in the final round of the Pairs Free Skating category.
Savchenko and Massot circled around the arena as their form of introduction before they start their own show. Afterward, they went into position to prepare for what was coming next. When the music played, they propelled themselves together and freely flowed on the ice. Their unobstructed way of skating enabled them to execute clean stunts as they pulled off their almost perfect choreography.
With the dream of obtaining gold, they showed off their elegant and graceful routines.
As the pair flowed like water on solid ice, they never missed their chance to blow everyone’s minds with their gravity-defying stunts.
The pair started with a beautiful triple twist lift, with Massot tossing Savchenko on the air and then catching her gently after spinning gracefully in mid-air.
They proceeded to entrance their audience by executing immaculate swivels and turns all while keeping their flow synchronized as they travel together on the big, white space set for them.
The pair did more tosses and lifts that left the crowd in awe at their magnificent routine!
Judging them individually, Massot showed pure strength and control as he tossed his partner in the air like a ragdoll, catching her so gracefully.
Savchenko, on the other hand, kept herself flexible and focused as she soared high and posed with unbreakable poise in the air. Both were equally impressive, having qualities that are suited to attain perfection.
The gold medal was awarded to the couple after their magnificent performance!
The German representatives finally earned their rightful place at the top, beating their contenders.
The couple gleefully grabbed their gold medals after a breathtaking performance on the ice. In terms of points, they beat the Chinese pair skaters who came in as silver medalists—though only by a hair.
It was such a close call, but the Germans emerged victorious in this splendid bout!
