There are classic songs and then there are THE classics. From Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean“, to Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody“, to The Eagles’ “Hotel California“, there are songs that people, from whichever part of the world, know and will sing to anytime and anywhere.
On that list would be John Denver’s “Take me home, country roads“. Released in 1971 and known to be one of Denver’s most beloved songs, it is also signature John Denver. It is as country and folk as they come.
There are hundreds and maybe even thousands of covers for this song. It is easy to play on an instrument and easy to sing, granted you have the skills of course. Just search for covers on YouTube and there you go.
But there are those who stand out with pure talent and charisma.
And we’re not talking about popular artists. These are people who share their talents to the world via social media.
Emily Joy is one such talent. She has 16.3 thousand subscribers to her channel which, if anything, is a good sign as to how amazing she is.
This is her acoustic version of the John Denver classic. 3.5 million views and counting with 32 thousand likes not enough to convince you?
She is from Western Australia but has moved to the United States to follow her dreams of becoming a country singer. She’s well on her way by the looks of it. She’s also done her part studying in various art programs and colleges.
Doesn’t mean she’s forgotten her roots though. She still sings in her homeland.
Emily Joy is also a songwriter but when she’s not singing her own songs, she goes back to the classics like this one. Her version of “Take me home, country roads” is simply delightful to listen to. The rendition is so light and very laid back.
One guitar is all Emily Joy needs and together with her guitarist, they harmonize and blend their voices to produce such a simple and yet unique take on the Denver classic. This is raw talent.
Her voice is very sweet. And even though you may not have been to or visited West Virginia, her singing makes you long for the place.
Those mountains are calling so start walking those country roads.
And as if to drive their point home, Emily Joy and her male guitarist, Luke Gallagher, decided to perform on a dirt road surrounded by bushes and trees. A perfect setting for a perfect song.
Though Emily tells Luke about her fear of a snake coming out to bite her, she never shows it. Her dress and Luke’s shirt match the country motif too. Gotta’ hand it to Luke’s guitar skills, the notes are sharp and clean adding to the overall quality of the performance.
Emily Joy has twenty-six other covers of classics ranging from country to pop, to classic.
Her musical prowess is promising and viewers love her,
“The way she sings the “I belooooOoOong” part makes me wanna believe in love”
says one, while another goes on to say,
“OMG–this is so good-she is AMAZING! Will look at her other stuff now”
Can’t really blame them. Emily Joy is one incredible singer.
Press play and let Emily Joy take you back to your own place you call home.
