In the world of dance, few styles evoke as much energy and excitement as boogie-woogie.
The genre traces its roots back to African American culture.
This spirited dance form gained widespread popularity in the early 20th century, becoming a staple of swing-era music and dance halls.
While some may argue that the style is dead, Sondre and Tanya continue to breathe new life into this timeless art form.
Sondre and Tanya started their performance strong.
Tanya started off with a sultry crossstep as she walked toward Sondre.
Sondre, on the other hand, had tricks of his own. Who would’ve thought that swing can have a bit of robot dancing?
One would think they were doing some simple moves, but stay a while and you’ll see their quick maneuvers.
Push and pull, then transition to jitterbug spin?
Easy.
Then finish off with a lift? Now we’re talking!
Sondre and Tanya showed that this style needs class, creativity, and a whole lot of athleticism.
Sondre finishes their move with a lift, then Tanya does a graceful dismount then she is swung between Sondre’s legs!
Whoever said men can’t do splits hasn’t seen this guy dance!
Then, Tanya readied for another go when she held her leg up.
Sondre grabbed onto this hand and swung her around.
They took the judges by surprise when Sondre dipped himself on the floor and did some push-ups.
Boogie Woogie itself has a rich history.
The dance originated in the African American communities of the Southern United States during the late 19th century.
It evolved from the blues and ragtime music of the time, eventually gaining popularity in the bustling dance halls of cities like Chicago and New York.
During the swing era of the 1930s and 40s, Boogie Woogie exploded onto the mainstream stage, captivating audiences with its infectious rhythms and exuberant style.
It became a symbol of freedom and expression, offering people a chance to let loose and dance their troubles away.
Sondre and Tanya have been competing in the boogie-woogie scene since 2015.
The duo has won almost all world cups and even regional ones like European, Nordic, and Norwegian championship titles.
Sondre was born in Norway but lived in Warsaw.
He started dancing at a really young age.
He was just 8 years old when he joined his first dance competition.
Tanya grew up in Kyiv but later ended up in Norway.
She started classical dance at 4 years old and did acrobatic dances at 9.
Now, the duo has been teaching Boogie Woogie, and Lindy Hop.
Solo Jazz, and Charleston to those who aspire to become dancers.
