Couple doesn’t know what song is next but break out every move to conquer the stage
It doesn't matter if you know what song's next when you can swing dance like that.

Dancing is an art and one of the reasons is because it is how someone could express their inner feelings, wild imaginations, and experiences, all through body movements. There is no perfect routine as long as each step comes from the heart. What better kind of dance is best described here than Shag dancing?

Fuel your body with your creative juices

Shag is a popular dance that is commonly associated with the beach towns of North and South Carolina. The dance has a rich history, and it even gained more popularity in the 1930s when Jazz and Swing music was introduced.

The dance is usually composed of a pair.

Furthermore, it has plenty of room for improvised steps. Most of the time, these steps are made at the heat of the moment, or should I say the dance floor. Therefore, the shag has no fixed routine, and steps could be omitted or added depending on the dancers’ creativity.

Today, there is the Capital City Shag Club

Originated in Carolina, this dance has evolved a lot over the years. There is what they call a shag club just like the Capital City Shag Club, a non-profit organization full of shag lovers. Sometimes, they hold big shagging events where people could show off their “shagging” skills, like the Shag Extravaganza, a three-day weekend gala celebrating the South Carolina State Dance “the Shag” and Shag music.

The MC made a surprising announcement before the dance

Jeremy Webb and Taylor Perkinson joined the Shag Extravaganza VIII that was held at Bush River Road, Columbia in 2017. The announcer first introduced the couple on stage, but as they went in front, the announcer suddenly said that the couple had no idea what music is about to be played, and he wanted the couple to put on a show on stage and show everyone “what true dancing is all about.”

The couple had no choice but to take on the challenge

Upon hearing the emcee’s words, Webb and Perkinson both lifted their shoulders at each other as if they’re saying, “Whatever happens, happens.” They really had no idea what song was going to play on the speakers, but they resolved themselves that they could take on that challenge.

After the emcee uttered the words, “Are you ready?”, a classic rock song from Rockpiles, Oh What A Thrill suddenly played on the speaker.

Surprisingly, it only took them an instant to know what they’re going for

After the song’s guitar intro, Webb put his arms around his partner and suddenly, their dance moves just came out of nowhere. Their rubbery feet slid smoothly on the floor, and it seems like there’s nothing that could stop them anymore.

The most surprising thing is their chemistry. Despite not knowing what song they would be dancing to, they were still able to pull of various routines that you’d think that they just came out of practice.

With uninterrupted footwork and their subtle communication on the dancefloor, it led to perfect shag dance. They showed off their smooth swivels and turns, switches, and the other improvised steps that got the whole crowd cheering for them. Not once did they trip nor lose focus throughout the dance. They’re just that perfect.

Wrapping the show with a graceful spin and a hug

After their improvised dance performance, they couldn’t help but hug each other for a job well done. They exited the stage with big smiles on their faces, as the audience sends them off with massive cheers. They really showed them what real dancing is like.
