Once you watch this lively couple’s choreography unfold, you’ll see exactly why the Energizer Bunny just can’t hold a candle to their extra bouncy antics!
I know what you’re thinking – we’ve seen wedding dance-off’s a bazillion times over.
But, not like this one.
Oh no – a Bhangra dance-off is SO very different!
But, let’s backtrack for a moment. Some of you may not even know what Bhangra is or why you should care about it, and that’s okay.
Because after today, you’ll probably find yourself Binging on YouTube videos as you search for even more amazing examples of this hidden cultural gem.
Here’s a quick lesson to help catch you up on this traditional folk dance’s origins.
It originated on the Indian subcontinent in the Punjab region. It was how people celebrated and rejoiced in the harvest season.
Yep. It certainly looks like they’re having a party to me.
Oh, and take a moment to admire those high heels peeking out from her skirt.
Anyone who can dance in stilettos is a superhero in my book!
Here and now in the 21st century, the old-school moves have transformed from their roots as a folk dance into something even better.
According to Learn Bhangra:
“Bhangra is an energetic, folk dance and music form that originated from Punjab, India. Today, it’s the newest dance, music, and fitness phenomenon spreading all over the world. Bhangra has made its way to America’s Got Talent, the London Olympics, and even the White House.”
It’s even made its way to the frozen north of Canada’s Yukon territory.
Instead of lighting a fireplace to keep warm, Gurdeep Pandher prefers to take advantage of Bhangra’s aerobic benefits to turn up the internal heat.
“I danced Bhangra on the frozen Yukon River under delightful sunshine. From this serenity of nature, I am forwarding joy, hope and positivity across Canada and beyond.”

In this particular wedding video, however, this couple’s high-energy kicks and non-stop action aren’t just keeping them warm.
It’s also allowing them to stretch out like water taffy!
In fact, wait until you see this woman suddenly drop to the floor and then fly back up into the air like a catnip-crazed cat.
I’m breaking a sweat just watching her move. And can we have her workout plan please, because she has got to be hiding legs of steel underneath that skirt!
The way she squats is almost reminiscent of the Russian folk dance Hopak.
If you’ve ever seen any old black and white videos of Russian soldiers squatting low to the ground while kicking their legs straight out, then you know exactly what I’m talking about.
It’s an amazing physical feat to be sure, and not just anyone can pull it off.
Not only do you need to have plenty of lower body and core strength, but you also better be up to date on your bendy yoga-like moves!
Bhangra is one of India’s most energetic dances, and here’s the proof.
Don’t try this at home unless you’re skilled like these two.
