Tango lovers will surely enjoy the timeless classic with one of the best tango dancers in history with the one and only Carlos Gavito.
The acoustic version of “Dance Me To The End of Love” is enriched by a powerful performance that will be stuck in your memory for a long time to come. Gavito was almost 70 when this was filmed, but the indisputable tango king will enchant you with his sensual moves, and the way he leads his dance partner across the dance floor.
Enjoy the tango masterpiece spiced up with one of Cohen’s most legendary songs!
Gavito was often described as a dance-poet and his sentence that “tango is not a step, but what happens in between two steps” became the most accurate description of the passionate Latin dance.
The famous Argentinian tango dancer began to dance in the ’50s.
That’s how he met the love of his life and dance partner Helen Gavito. Helen graduated from the Scottish Royal Ballet School, and the duo danced together until 1995 when Carlos was invited to dance with Forever Tango. The huge project united the most skillful Argentinian dancers.
That was a very big opportunity for Gavito to dance in the US West Coast cities, where the number of people interested in learning how to dance the tango increased unexpectedly.
So, Carlos opened a dance workshop and became a dance instructor. Gavito’s moves are slow, graceful and full of passion.
Carlos Gavito passed away in 2005, leaving behind a legacy of footage where he teaches dancers of balance, line and posture.
So many legendary people participated in the making of this video! In the video, Francis Goya is on the acoustic guitar, performing Leonard Cohen’s phenomenal 1984 hit song “Dance Me to the End of Love.”
The track was described as “on the brink of becoming a standard.”
That says it all. Goya is a Belgian classical guitar player and producer, and he has recorded more than 50 albums so far. Over time, he got famous for his effort to bring art closer to people.
The woman who dances with Carlos is Maria Plazaola, Gavito’s last dance partner.
You’re watching Gavito and Plazaola performing tango in Argentina at an event dedicated to the famous Argentinian poet, Evaristo Carriego. Maria said that “In the last years Carlos was anxious—almost desperately so—to pass on all of his knowledge of dance.”
She continued to teach tango and to share Devito’s audiovisual materials from classes and performances.
That is Maria’s way to pay homage to one of the greatest tango dancers of all time. Just look at them on the stage together!
The way they move makes you fall in love with the tango.
Every step is carefully planned and Carlos has a unique way to wake up a lot of anticipation. The audience constantly wants more, and that’s how you know your performance is breathtaking.
Tango, music, love, beauty—taken altogether, the wonderfulness of the video will leave viewers dizzy.
Footage like this make us thankful we have internet, and that there’s a way for us to watch such an awesome performance.
Luckily, we’ll always have videos like this to go back to and to remind ourselves of the essence of tango.
Rest in peace Gavito, your dance still burns with an eternal flame!
