If you’re after a dance style that’ll let couples really express themselves and keep the crowd glued to their seats, then you learn the swing. There are few dance styles that work so well for couples.
Swing is an energetic couple dance, and that’s why it’s a fan-favorite in not just the U.S., but in parts of Europe too.
This competition happened in Norway some weeks ago, and these are who the winners were.
These are Sondre and Tanya, a couple who can dance the swing pretty darn well.
With the experience these two have, they can play around with more style and technique while still looking slick.
Sondre, for instance, does some jittering and stomping to look like a robot, and then transitions those movements into the smoother swing moves we’re all familiar with.
And any good swing dancer is only as good as their partner. Thankfully, Tanya is an excellent dancer too.
Dressed for the occasion, Sondre dons a black tuxedo while Tanya is in a gorgeous white dress with a slit on the side.
The choice of attire is great, as the lower part of the dress flows and swings around whenever Tanya moves – giving her dancing a bit more visual flare.
As for Sondre’s attire, there’s not much visual flare here – men’s attire hardly ever has any. But he at least looks good, and that’s what’s important.
There is no shortage of acrobatics and lithe movements here.
They must’ve been stretching like crazy before coming on stage, because those movements are unreal.
I can see most people hurting themselves even trying those.
These are no simple twirls and gyrations either, Sondre even has to pick up Tanya and hoist her up to his shoulders!
And he doesn’t just lift her, he has to hold her in the air for a good few seconds. Then walk along the stage while still carrying her.
Tanya appears as light as a feather as Sondre swings her around by hand and ankle.
She’s a professional, after all.
After that little show of upper body strength and balance, the duo take it back to good old fundamental swing moves. From their twirling to their footwork, and everything in between.
Swing isn’t easy to master, but it’s oh-so-fun to watch a Swing master do it.
Look at the finesse and the communication between these two!
And you know what else elevates a couple dance to new heights? Being an actual couple.
The trust that goes into it play a big role. Trusting your partner to catch you, twirl you, and stay on-beat with you is how these two won the competition.
If you look at their socials, you’ll see that same mutual trust and love they have, and it’s why their fans and followers enjoy watching them so much.
Living and traveling together makes being dance partners a bit easier.
