When Jason Colacino and Katie Boyle stepped to the stage back in the early 2000s, it was a night to remember. They queued up the music, and within seconds, the duo instantly got lost in the dance.
The crowd looked on in amazement as the two of them spun and grooved their way around the dance floor.
Everyone in attendance that day will remember it always, including the judges.
It was one of the most magical performances that we have ever seen.
“Behind every successful man, there’s a lady who complements him in every way possible. Love Katie, she’s awesome. Wish they were still here,” writes YouTube commenter Rick Nally.
Over ten years out and their smooth swing dance is still just as relevant as ever.
It’s why we are so excited to share their video with you. Yet, unfortunately, we have some bad news to share also. When Nally writes in his YouTube comment, “wish they were still here”, he means it literally.
Sadly, Colacino passed away in 2009 at the age of 31 as a result of pneumonia and cardiac arrest.
However, his performances will live on and be remembered for many years to come. Fans of West Coast Swing dance will make sure of that.
“The 2004 competition where they won 2nd place was the most sensual dance, the timing was impeccable. Gives me a warm feeling to have witnessed this routine,” writes Nally.
Colacino and Boyle were one of the duos that really helped make the genre of dance famous back in the day.
Masters of their craft, both of them absolutely shined every time that they got on the stage together.
You can clearly see the passion in their moves as they are absorbed in the music.
They leave it all on the stage for everyone to witness.
It’s that same passion that ultimately garnered Colacino one US Open Swing title and three World Cabaret titles.
Those were just a few of his massive achievements — it’s safe to say that he left the world way too soon and we can only imagine how much he would have given us if he had had just a few more years.
However, the performance we’ve selected to share with you today will warm your heart.
“Brilliant and what an amazing duo. I still miss seeing him and dancing with him when he visited upstate NY,” writes YouTube commenter Barbara Ethan.
“He was a special person. Very sincere and authentic. I love this routine and I watch it often.”
When it comes to dancing with partners, chemistry is everything.
Colacino and Boyle have it in spades. They are oozing with confidence and their moves seem to flow effortlessly every time that they perform. We can only imagine how much time they spent practicing together in order to get to that level of mastery.
There are some people that can just feel the music and Colacino and Boyle surely belong to that category. Their connection is visible in the way that they move and glide.
