What comes to mind when somebody mentions ‘country music’?
Throughout history, it has undergone much evolution, reflective of a rich and ever-growing culture and heritage.
Ballads and gospel music preceded The Great Depression, which The Grand Ole Opry endured. Radio became a big thing, as did Western movies showcasing singing cowboys like Roy Rogers. Honky Tonk made its way to the scene, as well as bluegrass. Rockabilly was born, as well as rhythm and blues, offering us Elvis and Johnny Cash.
And even at that, country music has continued to take shape over the years, with no intention of slowing down.
The Eagles, Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton all claimed a part of the music’s rich history.
Lynard Skynard took a turn. And no sooner did artists like Garth Brooks and Faith Hill take the stage. Now, modern country is here, and it’s taking on a new and unique form of its own. Some artists are paying homage to the past, while politely nodding their heads to a future sound.
Take this baritone country crooner, for example: Josh Turner.
After graduating from college with a Bachelor of Music degree, his already-trending career got the surge of a lifetime when he debuted on the stage of the hallowed Grand Ole Opry in 2001.
With a redemptive-themed song (“Long Black Train”) and a deep voice often likened to Randy Travis, Turner earned himself two standing ovations and an encore at his breakout performance. From there, his career only escalated, making him an instant-classic and modern favorite.
Question any fan of country music, and they may very well agree that Turner’s song “Your Man” is one of the sexiest out there.
The song, written by Chris Stapleton, Chris DuBois and Jace Everett, was recorded by Turner in 2005.
His sultry voice complements the words perfectly, in such a way that it earned it a number one spot on the US Billboard chart for Hot Country music.
When Turner performed the steamy song on the Bing Stage, live from Ohio in 2009, fans went wild.
Since the video has been uploaded to YouTube, it has achieved over seven million views and 61,000 likes.
One watch, and you’ll just what everyone is swooning over!
“Your Man” perfectly showcases Turner’s deep voice, a true testosterone-laced hallmark of the genre.
As he takes the stage, it’s evident that his fans already adore him.
But one guitar riff and a couple of measures later, they get the treat of a lifetime. As Turner sings, you’re greeted with a real vibe. As some would say, very sexy.
“Baby, lock the doors and turn the lights down low.”
Just as soon as he begins to sing, greeting his fans with the smoothest of voices, you can hear them coo in the background. With a smile, Turner continues.
“Put some music on that’s soft and slow
Baby, we ain’t got no place to go
I hope you understand”
It’s no surprise that 2011 American Idol contestant Scotty McCreery went on to cover this song for his audition.
Although young, he possessed the deep southern vocals it takes to pull off a song like this.
After performing, he earned a unanimous yes from all three judges. And what do you know? He went on to win the title.
