New line dances are created every year.

It can be hard to keep up with the new dances and still remember the older line dances. A great way stay current with line dances is by watching and learning them from the internet. Serge and Lucie Bédard have created great line dancing videos for the benefit of others.

Serge and Lucie Bédard offer in person dance classes but have made certain line dances available through YouTube.

Since “Cotton Eye Joe” is such a line dancing classic, of course this dance would be included!

Their YouTube collection of line dances is pretty extensive with 43 videos uploaded to their account.

Serge and Lucie Bédard state on their website that they, “…have been passionate about country dance for many years. They have traveled throughout Quebec and the United States to learn from the best teachers and live their passion on a daily basis. They dance to pure country and new-country music and the dances are taught according to the original choreography.

Serge Bédard states that the “Cotton Eye Joe” dance is for beginners at the very beginning of the video. He also lets the viewers know that there are 32 counts in total to the line dance. This should help ease any viewers that might not be experienced in line dancing. The song might be fast, but the line dance will still be at a beginner level.

Ten cowgirls are performing the line dance and they are ready from the very beginning.

The line dancers are keeping with the beat before the dance even starts. Many of them are keeping track of the count by patting on their leg with the beat. It is clear once the line dance begins that these dancers know all the steps well.

They are not just wearing cowboy hats for show, these are seasoned country line dancers!

Serge Bédard has made the line dance’s 32 steps available on his website as well. The steps are,

“1-8 Heel, Heel, Point, Point, Point, Hook With Slap, Point, Back Hook With Slap. 9-16 Vine To Right, Touch, Rolling Vine To Left, Stomp Down. 17-24 Heel, Heel, Point, Point, Point, Hook With Slap, Point, Back Hook With Slap. 25-32 Vine To Left, Touch, Rollling Vine To Right, Stomp Down.”

Watching these cowgirls get down to “Cotton Eye Joe” is so much fun to watch.

These girls know that a successful line dance is created through a group effort, so they are not ones to hog the spotlight. After almost one minute into their performance the back row moves forward to know be the front line. They all get their time to show off their moves in the front.

The beauty of line dancing is the ability to correct yourself by watching those around you quickly and getting back into the correct steps.

It does not take long to realize that the switching of rows is a consistent move within the line dance as the cowgirls move to the back again. A line dancer in the back gets her feet mixed up for a few counts.

This video proves that little mistakes can happen to anyone and the best thing to do is just keep dancing through it.
