Just because you have a career in something, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t follow other dreams you may have.

A lot of us get bogged down by the idea of having to stay in your designated field of work for the rest of your life. While many would argue that this is exactly what a career is, it doesn’t mean you can’t nor shouldn’t follow a dream outside of it.

Lucky for us, we live in a time where having many passions and jobs isn’t as frowned upon as it once was. Being skilled at many different things is generally more so viewed as an asset rather than a hindrance.

One Oklahoma police officer is doing just that. Master sergeant (MSgt) Phil Paz has been on the police force in Oklahoma City for 28 years. Though he loves his job, he also has a passion, and talent, for singing. Nowadays, all you need is a little bit of both and a social media handle to get noticed.

It’s no secret that Paz had a desire to be an actor.

His social media is full of headshots, video clips of his work, and photos of him on set. But over time, he began uploading videos of singing song covers to some really popular tunes.

Some of the songs include, “Labamba,” “Let’s Stay Together,” and “Easy.”

The latter garnered Paz a wave of attention. In fact, the video has racked up over 7 million views on his Facebook. It also has more than 200,000 reactions and shares. Those are very impressive numbers!

But once you hear him singing, you’ll see why. He has great vocal ability.

If you aren’t aware, “Easy” is a 1977 hit song by the popular soul and funk Motown band, Commodores. They have several hits including “Brick House” and “Three Times the Lady.” But one of their most successful songs is “Easy” which was written by one of the group’s members, Lionel Richie.

The song has since been covered numerous times throughout the years. Ironically, Richie wrote the song with the intention of it being a crossover hit.

Needless to say, it worked.

Paz decided to put his own spin on the song. He disclosed that he had been challenged to the law enforcement lip sync challenge but decided to forego the lip-syncing part. Instead, he chose to sing.

In his cop car and sitting behind a pair of shades, he effortlessly belts out the lyrics of the song. His voice is unwavering and smooth. You would think that he might have been a singer in his past life. He’s able to switch between notes with ease that some would undoubtedly struggle with.

This video won Paz a wider fanbase. There are plenty of reactions under this video and several others showing their support for the officer.

“Don’t take this wrong, but I LOVE U!!~ your voice is SO seductive! Why you aren’t a recording artist is BEYOND me! You Sir, have skills!!!”

“You are one hell of an actor sir! I’ll be watching for You! Better yet, give us a heads up to what movie you might be doing!”
