By this time, just about everyone has heard of the Git Up challenge. There’s a good chance that many of those individuals have been involved with it. If you’re one of the few out of the loop, this challenge was inspired by the song, “The Git Up” by Blanco Brown.
What makes it so unique is it’s a blend between hip-hop and country. Whether performing as one person, two people, or an entire group, it involves line dance style moves that coordinate with the lyrics of the song.
Everyone loves the Git Up challenge
Some of the videos people upload are sweet, like those of a father and daughter doing the dance. But then again, some are super funny, especially the ones that show police officers kicking up their heels. Regardless, they’re all fun to watch.
Now, let’s turn to another topic…
…driving while intoxicated. We all know that’s a big no-no. Not only does driving drunk put the driver at risk for serious injury or death but it also puts other people in harm’s way. Even though police officers work hard to keep drunk drivers off the road, some people still do it.
A new challenge
This isn’t to make light of a big issue. But when you have a combination of the Git Up challenge and DUIs, an otherwise serious situation turns, well, pretty funny.
No one was drunk in the making of the video
Remember, the Git Up challenge is all about having fun. So, police officers decided to create a DUI edition. Although no one was drunk, the outcome will certainly make you laugh. It starts out with “Officer Nae Nae” pulling over a white car for a suspected DUI.
The officer approaches the guy’s car
That’s when Officer Nae Nae thinks something’s fishy. So, he has the guy step out of his car and then using lyrics from Brown’s song, he lip-syncs, “Right now, I need you to get real loose.”
Follow along
Using more lyrics, he tells the driver to “Just follow after me.” But then things get hilarious. He continues with, “Gon’ and do the 2 step then cowboy boogie” as he shows the driver how to perform a portion of the sobriety test…Git Up style.
Even the driver cracks up
Once the officer gets to the part of “Now lean back put your hips in it (whoo, whoo, whoo) let’s have some fun,” the driver has to turn his back to avoid laughing on camera. Why? Because this police officer gets into the song maybe a bit too much with the hip action.
Looking into the eyes
Next, the officer performs the eye portion of the sobriety test, which goes along with the lyrics, “To the left to the left now, to the right to the right.” You can see the smirk on the driver’s face as he desperately tries not to lose it.
Still going
Now to the lyrics, “This next part’s my favorite part ’cause its time to… Gon’ and do the 2 step then cowboy boogie,” the officer has the driver try to repeat the moves he showed him earlier. He fails miserably.
No beer allowed
After grabbing a can of beer out of the driver’s hands, the officer instructs him to “Slide to the left, slide to the right.” To make sure this guy doesn’t fall over, the cop does the moves with him. Priceless.
It gets even better
But the driver starts having trouble. Now he’s feeling dizzy. So, in perfect timing with the lyrics, “Round, round, round, and round you go,” he spins with the officer holding on to him to prevent him from falling.
Busted
The driver fails sobriety tests. So, the officer places him in the back of the police car.
Rather than poking fun at DUIs, this video shows that cops are humans just like the rest of us.
