Did you ever compete in a talent show when you were in primary school? Even for those who didn’t actually participate, many of us probably at least remember school assemblies to watch out classmates perform. Some of the most popular performances included singing, dancing or playing guitar on-stage. Sometimes there were even group talents as well. For the most part, we knew what kinds of talents we could expect to see. Every once in a while though, there would be a talent that would surprise everyone—one that was just a little stranger than all the rest.
One performance like that has recently gone viral on social media.
The group behind the video is Lovell Fourth Ward, a Christian youth group based out of Lovell, Wyoming.
A YouTube channel related to the account run by user 2000jrg has chronicled many of the group’s various dances and performances. Still, none of them have been quite as popular as their hand clap skit—which now has nearly 10 million views. As the video begins, six young men in blue jeans, white shirts and sunglasses are sitting in a row onstage. After the curtains part, some audience members cheer for the boys.
After a moment, the boy on the far left sits up and starts snapping.
Once the snapping starts, the others follow suit one by one.
After that, the hand clapping skit begins! In unison, the boys start a knee-patting, hand-clapping routine with completely straight faces and no music behind them. The routine is tightly synchronized and gets more complex as it goes on, all with no sound and nobody breaking character. As the routine comes to a close, boys on the end begin to sit out until it’s just the two boys in the middle doing the routine as fast as they can!
Finally, everyone comes to life once again for a final pose—and the crowd goes wild (headphone users beware).
The fun of the clip takes us back to a time of school assemblies and lunchroom cafeterias.
The routine these boys practiced is a little unusual but it’s pulled off with precision—and it’s oddly funny as well. As a youth group trying to spread awareness for a cause, this one definitely counts as one of the more creative methods we’ve seen. Be sure to check out some of the group’s other performances and songs on YouTube.
Congratulations on a great performance, boys!
