Christopher Walken is an American actor, producer, dancer and screenwriter.
Still, before he was an Oscar-winning movie star, the man loved to dance. Walken has appeared in more than 100 movies as well as countless television appearances and music videos.
Anyway, Fatboy Slim’s “Weapon on Choice” music video depicts the actor’s dancing abilities quite well.
We guess you’ve already seen it more than once. One more time won’t hurt. Right?!
The video is director Spike Jonze’s second collaboration with Fatboy Slim.
Jonze is an American filmmaker who was a popular director of choice throughout most of the 90’s. Over the course of his career, he has worked with Sonic Youth, Fatboy Slim, Beastie Boys, Daft Punk, Kanye West, Björk and more. As it turns out, Fatboy Slim was so satisfied with how their “Praise You” video turned out that they decided to do business with Jonze one more time. With that, they hired Jonze to direct “Weapon of Choice” with Christopher Walken dancing in a deserted hotel lobby.
The video was a major success.
Yes, Walken is also a tap dancer who trained in musical theatre before his acting career took off.
The popular actor said that Jonze’s involvement in the project was one of the biggest reasons he wanted to participate—and that dancing to electronic music suited him well. As he said, it was a “chance to do something different,” and we’re glad he took the opportunity. The video won six awards at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards.
As a matter of fact, it was also ranked number one in a list of the top 100 videos of all time by VH1.
We have to mention the 2002 Grammy Award for the Best Music Video.
The song is originally from Fatboy Slim’s third studio album “Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars.” The video was filmed in the lobby of the Marriott Hotel in Los Angeles which has since been converted into the L.A. Grand Hotel downtown.
In all, the whole team did a great job making one of the most memorable music videos ever.
When it begins, Walken is sleeping in a chair with no one around him.
As he wakes up from the nap, the video begins. The “Weapon of Choice” video was particularly acclaimed for its choreography, which is deserved. The actor was 58 years old when he filmed this video, but he nails the moves perfectly! The clip ends when Walken returns to his chair and falls asleep again. As the video suggests, it’s a cycle that never ends.
As soon as he sits down for a brief rest, actor resumes dancing and flying.
The video is sure to make you smile, and it might even have you dancing as well. With his swept-up hair and his signature smirks, this is a classic Christopher Walken performance in action.
Since it was posted, the music video has earned more than 44 million YouTube views.
We couldn’t help but scroll through the comments section—and we laughed a lot at the comment saying that this what you’re supposed to do in a hotel that’s empty during quarantine. We have to agree…but only during quarantine. We can only hope that we’re all as spry as Walken is when we get to his age.
