Without a doubt, there have been some incredible performances on shows like The Voice over the years.
The show has been running since 2006, and in that time there have been all kinds of changes.
The panel of judges has been switched out multiple times, all kinds of different performers have come and gone, and Blake Shelton and Adam Levine have had countless fights.
What’s clear is that the show has enough twists and turns to remain interesting throughout the years—especially with the new addition of John Legend to the show.
Still, the main reason people tune in is for the incredible performances.
Though there are many different things that can make a performance great, one of them is definitely the song choice.
That was definitely the case for one performer from the 2017 season.
Just like all the shows start out, this one began with the judges’ backs turned to the singer.
A moment later, a very recognizable song started playing—it was “Try A Little Tenderness” by Otis Redding.
While the song is definitely famous and loved the world over, it’s not exactly the easiest to sing.
Regardless, the performer had no trouble with the introduction and struck a beautiful tone.
Only seconds into it, both Adam Levine and Jennifer Hudson had smashed their buzzers to turn around.
While the beginning was great, it only got more powerful from there!
As the accompanying piano and guitar came in, his voice soared right along with it and found all kinds of notes and pockets to slide into.
As the song picked up, everyone in the crowd was feeling it.
Before long, judge Miley Cyrus turned around as well… and Shelton was right on her heels!
At the very end, the song built to a huge crescendo and the whole time, the singer never hits a false note!
When it’s all over, the crowd and the judges give him a standing ovation.
After everyone is done throwing their notepads on the stage and the floor, it’s time for everyone to give comments.
When it’s finally over, the singer introduces himself as Chris Weaver.
Needless to say, everybody make some strong pitches to win Weaver’s talents.
Before long, he’s telling the judges that he’s both engaged in the church and the drag community.
At this, everyone loses their mind! After hearing this, Shelton makes an impassioned pitch as well… but it seems like a four-way tie.
When it’s finally all over, Weaver is in tears from all the positivity raining down on him.
Though everyone makes a strong case, it’s finally time for Weaver to choose a team to go with.
While everyone did their best, Weaver ultimately picks Jennifer Hudson because their back stories are so similar.
At those words, Hudson gets out of her chair once again and sings a high sustaining note!
Regardless of the overall results of the audition, Weaver proved that his voice was incredible and that he was one of the all-time great auditions on the show.
Needless to say, singers don’t get much better than this!
