Although the internet started as a curiosity or a pass time, it has turned into something that shapes our culture.
By way of example, consider YouTube. The platform started as a place where people could upload home movies and videos for themselves and others’ entertainment.
Still, the platform has grown so popular that it spawned its own genres of videos in vlogs and reaction videos. It also popularized the idea of filmed surprises in all different contexts, whether it’s a prank video or a happier surprise.
And even if you think you’ve seen them all, there’s seemingly always a new twist to discover.
That’s definitely the case for today’s video.
The clip was originally posted to YouTube in June of 2017, uploaded by Nick Soru. While Soru isn’t a household name, he’s an active content creator on YouTube making music and video content.
Still, the video he posted isn’t quite like his usual content. Instead, as he explains in the beginning, the video is dedicated to his girlfriend and their long-distance relationship. As it turns out, Soru planned a surprise for her and decided to document it all.
And the end result is so different than other videos of its kind!
In the beginning, he explains that he flew in from Canada to LA, California to surprise his girlfriend.
Upon landing, he got to work with a bunch of choreographers for a special performance. As he explains, his girlfriend Jessica Martinez is a dancer who thinks she’s in the middle of a big audition.
Instead, her audition is going to be a segue into Soru performing surprise choreography for her. When the time finally comes, she does her dance and strikes a dramatic pose.
When it’s all over, she turns around—and Soru is there!
Needless to say, she definitely wasn’t expecting him.
A moment later, Soru and two other dancers do some choreography and before long, Martinez is in tears. It’s clear she probably suspects what’s coming! After all the dancing is over, Soru moves closer to her and gets down on one knee.
As he explains, the two of them have been together and apart multiple times before finally coming together. He tells her that she’s his inspiration, and that he loves her very much.
When it’s finally over, he opens a box and asks her to marry him.
After looking at the ring for just a moment, she says yes—and the whole crowd bursts into applause!
As she embraces him in tears, she puts it all together: “That’s why you weren’t available last night!” Since the clip was posted, it has been viewed nearly 10 million times!
Although there are plenty of choreography videos online, as well as plenty of wedding proposals, this one combines both genres in a truly unique way. When it’s all over, the two hug each other.
At the end, all the dancers come in for a group hug!
Needless to say, Soru’s surprise proposal was a huge success.
Although we’ve all seen at least a few surprise proposals before, this one is special in its unique approach and perfect execution.
Above all, it’s a great tribute to a couple who obviously love each other very much.
