In Ireland, two talented teenagers stole the show during their choir concert with their incredible voices.
One December, the Mount Sion Choir, consisting of 25 members aged between 12 and 19 and led by Colette Kearney, decided to gift the people of Waterford City with their radiant smiles and harmonious voices.
Their venue? The St. Patrick’s Gateway Centre, where they held a fun and festive concert.
Among the choir’s performances that evening, one duet stood out and took everyone by surprise.
Christopher Halligan, a 19-year-old, and Jessica Reinl, 17, teamed up to deliver a soul-stirring rendition of the song “Shallow.”
For those unfamiliar, “Shallow” is a poignant track from the acclaimed 2018 romantic musical drama, “A Star Is Born.” Originally performed by the stellar duo of Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, the song, along with the film, has garnered numerous accolades.
That night, in front of an enthralled audience, the young duo breathed new life into this beloved song.
Their rendition captured the raw emotion of the original, a testament to their innate understanding and connection to the music.
“Shallow” is a conversation between lovers, exploring the depths they’re willing to plunge to make their relationship work, steering clear of the superficial.
Halligan and Reinl embraced this narrative, pouring their hearts into the performance, ensuring every note resonated with the song’s profound meaning.
Their rendition wasn’t just emotionally charged; it was technically sound.
Despite their youth, they showcased immense talent, staying true to the song’s structure while highlighting its key elements. It’s no wonder their performance went viral, captivating millions online.
The Mount Sion Choir, recognizing the magic of this duet, shared it on YouTube.
The video quickly amassed millions of views. Its popularity surged across various social media platforms, especially Facebook, amplifying the duo’s newfound fame.
Colette Kearney, the choir director, revealed a surprising fact: the duo had only rehearsed the song once!
Yet, their performance was so moving that it brought tears of joy to many in the audience. One commenter wrote:
“Watching him smile in approval when she belts out the high bits. Lovely teamwork and very well done. Loved this.”
This viral moment ensured that the spotlight remained on them for a long time.
Their newfound fame opened doors. In 2019, both Reinl and Halligan were invited to perform their iconic duet at the Waterford Institute of Technology arena during the Waterford Peace Proms event.
The venue was packed, with the audience encircling the young stars.
Their growth as artists was evident, showcasing even more refined skills than before. Peace Proms later released this rendition, allowing fans to purchase it for a limited time.
That December night truly witnessed the rise of two stars, Jessica Reinl and Christopher Halligan, who melted hearts with their mesmerizing voices during the choir’s concert.
