Did you ever sing in a choir when you were a kid?
Although not all of us continue with music as we get older, when we’re young we often feel very free to express ourselves and to be creative. As we get older, we may go through plenty of experiences that may make us close ourselves off to the world. We become afraid that we have to be perfect to be accepted, and not that we should just be our enthusiastic selves.
Fortunately, there was a performance recently on Britain’s Got Talent that shows just how untrue that is.
As anyone who watches the Got Talent series knows, the shows are often very eclectic and feature some unusual performances.
Britain’s version of the show isno different, and this one featured the Flakefleet Primary School’s choir. Flakefleet Primary is a school in Lancashire, England. As the show starts, the choir conductor walks out with a small group of children.
Everyone walks to the middle of the stage as the judge asks them all questions. “We’re a real eclectic group,” he says. “Some of them are amazing singers some of them are enthusiastic.”
At that, all of the judges laugh.
One thing is clear right away: these are some of the most adorable contestants the show has ever seen.
After a few moments, they explain that in an assembly, one of the girls in the choir said she wanted to go on Britain’s Got Talent… so the school made it happen. After that, the show begins—the conductor moves to the front of the stage and encourages the kids. First he tells them to smile. Next, the kids start singing “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen… and it’s the cutest thing ever. Although their voices are a little bit shaky, the performance builds energy pretty quickly.
Before long, the entire stage is swarmed with little kids!
Needless to say, the performance isn’t perfect—but it’s so chaotic and so much fun!
Before long, everyone is in unique costumes, dancing along to all of the lyrics. Even the hosts get in on the action, pushing a little girl out on a wheeled cart dressed as a spaceship! The dance moves are out of control.
Before long, the entire crowd is on their feet, clapping and singing along with the group! All of the judges have huge smiles on their faces as the crowd is overtaken with kids.
As the performance ends, all the kids rush in to hug their teacher.
At the end of it all, the choir conductor starts crying… and all the kids start crying tears of joy as well.
Shortly after that, the audience starts crying, the judges start crying… but the applause doesn’t stop! If there was ever a performance that touched everyone’s heart, this is definitely it. After the show is over, even Simon is in complete support of it.
“You are so important to kids this age,” he says, “to remind them to have fun. Your joy that you radiated is infectious.” The entire crowd roars as the rest of the judges share their thoughts as well.
Above all, this group captured the hearts of everyone in the crowd.
Judge David was moved to tears… and after that, he smashes his Golden Buzzer!
After that, everyone starts crying again! If there’s anything we associate with childhood, it’s a kind of carefree innocence that we find it easy to lose track of when we become adults. Needless to say, this show captured that spirit perfectly and inspired everyone who saw it. We’ll be honest: the performance itself is a little bit chaotic, but it doesn’t matter at all. As far as live performances go, you’d be hard pressed to find one more beautiful and inspiring than this one.
Congratulations to all of Flakefleet Primary School and thanks for the inspiration! Check out the full video below:
