Every now and then a piece of music is played that reaches so deep into a person's soul that it almost hurts. That is what this song does for me.

It’s that time of year.

As we inch closer to the longest winters, we’ll also start to hear our favorite Christmas tunes and carols.

The holiday is so widespread and widely celebrated that Christmas music became a genre of its own, filled with original songs and renditions of existing ones.

But what happens when a famous Christmas carol collides with one of the most iconic cover artists of contemporary history?

The song starts with a rich reverberation.

It’s a sound only a seasoned cello player can make.

As the cellist glides his bow, the first notes of the song “O come, O Come, Emmanuel” plainly come to the scene.

It’s almost melancholic.

But altogether, it’s solemn and emotional.

As the intro ends, the piano comes in to provide the rhythmic chords.

It’s an enchanting rendition of an old-time classic and we expect nothing less from The Piano Guys.

Contrary to their name, The Piano Guys are not all pianists as it’s obviously seen.

However, their origin story has a lot to do with pianos and we think that’s more than enough for us to speculate where their group name came from.

They started with Paul, a Yamaha dealer who has a store in Southern Utah, who dabbled a bit in videography.

When democratized internet entertainment was slowly thriving, he and his friends decided to showcase their talents.

And their talent goes beyond words.

He is joined by Jon, a professional pianist, Al, a music producer and studio engineer, and lastly by Steve, the cellist in the video.

Working largely with covers, they became one of the biggest names on YouTube.

When you hear them, you’ll understand.

Classical music fans and the general audience who just love to listen to good music quickly became their followers.

According to their biography, the group has since accumulated millions of followers and billions of views combined from all of their videos.

With the quality of their videos and performance, it’s easy to see why they became a household name.

Their recent covers include pop music and songs that you couldn’t imagine being arranged into a piano and cello piece.

They have the popular disco tune September from Earth Wind & Fire, the iconic internet prank tune Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley, and Harry Styles’ As It Was.

But this song hits different.

One thing’s obvious, it runs deep.

“Exquisite. Absolutely exquisite. It is amazing how only two instruments can transport you to a whole other world. Their skill in each of their instruments, including their emotions poured into the piece, is breathtaking.” Commented another.
