Imagine being a 10-year-old girl, traveling to a foreign country where you don’t speak the language, and then performing a duet with a pop star.
Sounds like a dream, doesn’t it? But for Celine Tam, this dream became a reality.
She journeyed from Hong Kong to Germany with her family to perform a duet with pop music sensation Helene Fischer.
Their rendition of “You Raise Me Up” was so moving that it brought many audience members to tears and prompted a standing ovation before the song had even concluded.
As she introduced her young co-performer, it was clear that she believed the real star of the show was someone else.
“We are looking for young talents around the world. And I can tell you one thing: this year we landed a real hit. I would now like to introduce you to a sugar-sweet girl. She is 10 years old and came directly from Hong Kong to us in Germany. I welcome to the stage: Celine Tam,” Fischer announced.
As Celine stepped onto the stage, the audience couldn’t help but be charmed by her.
Dressed in patent leather shoes and a black tutu, she was the embodiment of the “sweet mouse” as Fischer described her.
Celine shared with the audience that she had experienced snow for the first time that day, a novelty for a girl from Hong Kong.
Celine also revealed that her parents were big fans of another famous singer, so much so that she and her baby sister were named after her.
Her name was Celine, and her sister’s name, Dion.
“You have really impressed me with your voice,” Fischer told Celine.
“I’m no Celine Dion, but would you still sing with me tonight?”
The song they chose to perform together was “You Raise Me Up,” a well-known song covered by many artists, including Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, and even Celine Dion herself.
“It’s a beautiful song that I honestly get goosebumps from, and probably more because I’m allowed to sing with this lovely young lady,” Fischer confessed.
Before they began to sing, Fischer blew Celine a kiss, which the adorable little girl returned.
But once Celine started to sing, the audience was left in awe.
Her powerful voice, mature beyond her years, was a revelation.
Many audience members were seen wiping away tears as Fischer and Celine sang together in perfect harmony.
As the two singers reached the final chorus, the audience couldn’t contain their admiration.
They surged to their feet, applauding wildly.
They couldn’t even wait for the end of the song to give their standing ovation.
