What little girl wouldn’t want to get up on stage and belt out her favorite tune from “Moana?”
Well, that’s just what Celine Tam got to do on “America’s Got Talent.”
Her semifinals performance wasn’t her first time impressing an audience. Since the season began, Tam has performed several songs on “America’s Got Talent,” including hits by her favorite singer, Celine Dion.
Even before coming on the show, Tam was a child star.
She got her big break at the young age of 5 years old when she was on the “Let’s Sing Kids” contest. She’s been on television and in competitions in China and is even known as the Celine Dion of Hong Kong. She’s been singing since the age of 3 and performed for the first time in front of an audience when she was only 4 years old, so you know there are great things in store for this amazing singer.
Her talents make sense since her father, Dr. Steve Tam, teaches music and owns singing academies in their home country of China. Like father, like daughter.
This time, Tam chose “How Far I’ll Go” from “Moana,” a wildly popular Disney movie. The song was originally performed by Auli’i Carvalho, but Tam truly brought this song to the next level with her bold performance.
Not only was her voice show-stopping, but her stage presence is remarkable for a girl of her age.
You can tell she really captivates the audience as she delivers an engaging but not overly theatrical performance.
Even though she’s young, she got further in the competition than many would expect. However, the young star did not receive enough votes to continue on to the finals of the competition. Her fans shared her disappointment, taking to social media to express their sadness that Tam would no longer have a shot at winning the competition.
Thang Tran, known as @thangsacto on Twitter, said:
“America made a mistake for sending #celinetam home. Just unbelievable. Just unreal.”
Many fans share Tran’s sentiments and wish that Celine Tam could continue on to the finals.
However, fans of Tam shouldn’t be too worried. After making it so far on “America’s Got Talent” and with all of her experience, before the show even started, she is sure to find even more success down the road.
Regardless of who you want to win the competition, it is disappointing to see such a talented star leave the stage. Now, Tam’s fans will just have to sit back and wait for the next time she pops up on stage. Who knows? It might be sooner than we all think.
