When it comes to country music artists, one person stands out … and that’s Carrie Underwood. Although she’d been singing for a long time, it was after her first-place finish on American Idol in 2005 when her career took off. So far, she’s received more than 100 major awards.
There’s something about Carrie that a lot of people didn’t know until recently. Yes, she has one of the most amazing voices on the planet. But she’s also a bit of a prankster.
Awards galore
When talking about Carrie Underwood, you can’t help but feel impressed. After all, she’s received 15 ACM awards, 7 Grammy awards, and 3 Entertainer of the Year awards. There’s no question, she has incredible talent.
The other side of Carrie
Along with a successful music career, she likes to have fun. And that goes beyond hanging out with family and friends. Jimmy Kimmel uploaded a video that he called “Undercover Sing,” featuring none other than the famous Carrie Underwood.
Setting the stage
At the start of the video, which has now been viewed over 3.7 times, he explains the setup. Inside a boot store, his crew placed a bunch of hidden cameras. Unbeknownst to the customers, they were in for a big surprise.
Starting to get busy
As customers began to fill the store, Carrie was positioned in a back room. There, she had access to monitors so she could see the people milling about. Initially, everything looked like a typical shopping day.
The music starts to play
While walking around, the customers quickly hear a Carrie Underwood song come over the loudspeaker. Instinctively, they began to tap their feet and move to the beat. But there was something they didn’t know.
A live performance
That’s right. The music the customers heard wasn’t from a CD. Rather, it was Carrie holding a mic out of sight while belting out the lyrics to one of her most popular songs.
There was a catch
Carrie wasn’t singing the original lyrics. Instead, she was making them up to coordinate with the customers she saw shopping on the monitors. While a woman with purple hair looked at boots, Carrie hilariously sang,
“One lady with purple hair, she’s the punk rock one going to get some boots.”
The aha moment
When three ladies entered the boot store, the clerk had asked where they were from. They responded “Virginia.” So, as Carrie continues to ab lib, she mentions women from Virginia, which is when one of the ladies realizes what’s happening … sort of.
The encounter
That’s when Carrie comes out of hiding. She walks over to the ladies, to which one says, “No way.” There she is, a superstar standing in front of customers shopping for boots.
Over and over again
These three ladies had the opportunity to meet Carrie and give her a big hug. For quite some time, Carrie repeated the same scenario for different groups of customers. And as anticipated, they looked puzzled as to why she was singing something specifically about them.
This is a great video. It’s fun, entertaining, and it shows what a great sport both Carrie and the boot shoppers were. Time and time again, she surprises strangers who more than appreciate meeting her in person.
