The X Factor is a great show with great performers. Season 2 of the show introduced us to American singer and teen actress Carly Rose Soneclar.
Carly Rose began singing by the age of 2 by imitating several performers she would see on American Idol, according to Wikipedia.
As she grew, Carly Rose took several singing, dancing, and acting classes along with piano lessons. She was eventually signed to a New York City talent agency that signed her. She has been in several stage productions and played Pearl in “The Night of the Hunter,” young Cosette in Les Miserables, and Carrie in “Little House on the Prairie, the Musical.”
She appeared in the Broadway musical “Wonderland” and was in two feature films, “The Nanny Diaries” and “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2.” She was chosen as a contestant on The X Factor in 2012 when she was 13 after auditioning with the song “Feeling Good” by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse which was most famously covered by Nina Simone.
That performance landed her a standing ovation from all four judges.
She was eventually chosen as one of six contestants and performed “Brokenhearted” for Britney Spears and will.i.am. Carly Rose made it to the final round of the competition where she performed Leona Lewis’ rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” as her $5 million song.
The grand prize for winning The X Factor is $5 million in cash in addition to a Syco/Sony Music recording contract.
The prize had previously was a recording contract worth $5 million.
“Carly Rose Sonenclar gave a soulful performance of Leona Lewis’ version of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” as her $5 Million Song on night one of the Season 2 Finals,” a caption of a video of her performance reads. “The performance inspired Britney to tell Simon, ‘You better get out your checkbook.'”
Her performance of the beloved soulful song was absolutely breathtaking. The set was illuminated in soft white lighting and drapery. Carly Rose and her back up singers were all dressed in white to compliment the heavenly sound of the song.
One of the judges said it was “a really angelic moment.” Apparently, he wasn’t the only one to think so. The entire crowd went wild over Carly Rose’s performance as did the internet.
A video of performance received more than 13 million views.
Unfortunately, Carly Rose did not win but she was second runner-up. We still think her performance was a $5 million performance which you can watch in the video below.
