High school can be a really rough time for a lot of teens. Kids can be really mean for so many reasons, and bullying is a big problem that can lead to some very serious consequences. When someone so young is tormented so frequently, it can really damage their sense of self and cause them to do the unthinkable.
One young woman named Caitlyn Vanbeck used to get bullied at her school for posting singing videos online. They gave her a hard time, and it almost pushed her to stop following her dreams.
But, whenever she started to feel this way, her dad gave her some supportive words of encouragement that made her remember that she is her own person and that these mean kids shouldn’t take away any of her self-worth or belief in herself.
When she steps in to audition in front of the judges, her mom and dad watch on from the other room, already beaming with pride. They know what she is capable of and they’re antsy with anticipation of what the judges will think. They have no idea exactly what kind of response their daughter will get, or what it would do to her ego if it wasn’t good.
When Caitlyn starts to sing, the looks on the judges’ faces say it all.
The way she makes it seem like the easiest thing in the world to make this song sound so good shows what a true talent she really is. There’s something about her voice that reminds you of another star that once caught a big break on a show like this…
It’s hard to think that anyone would bully someone for a voice like this. Clearly, they’re all just jealous of what a natural talent that she is.
And to think that she almost quit singing multiple times because of some rude kids at her school! I’m personally so happy that her dad gave her the support and the confidence to keep sight of her dreams, and to not give up just because some jealous kids nearly stole her thunder.
The way the judges react to her gorgeous voice is enough to bring tears to your eyes. It definitely brought tears of joy to Caitlyn’s eyes. You can see that she is so grateful for her father’s support, and after singing the song dedicated to him, she’s overcome with gratitude and joy for what just happened.
Simon’s comments are especially touching. He mentions the name of someone who crossed his stage years and years ago, who has put out hit after hit since winning a little show called American Idol.
Can you hear the resemblance between the two? I definitely can, and I can’t wait to listen to her sing again and again.
If you know someone who’s getting bullied, no matter for what reason, make sure you offer them support and remind them that they are great just the way they are. You never know when your kind words and support will change someone’s life for the better.
What do you think of Caitlyn’s voice?
