Butterflies take the stage

In this adorable video, named simply “Butterfly Dance Recital” with a description that reads “Brooke’s recital performance,” a video taken by a proud parent (or grandparent) gives us an audience-side view of an endearing dance recital. When the music starts you can hear the audience begin to quiet down with one child remaining to talk until the dancing begins.

Each of the fifteen girls on the stage wears matching black shoes covered in pink, a matching pink and teal dress with a perfectly poofy ballet tutu, and a bow in their hair. Of course, we can’t leave out the best part, they each come with their own set of pink butterfly wings.

And the dance begins

As the girls all stand in a row singing, a teacher comes up behind them with a butterfly net. Starting with the first girl, she mimes catching the butterfly with the net and encourages the girl to move forward on the stage in a little dance. The teacher then proceeds down the line, repeating the butterfly catching move with the net for each girl.

Some of the “butterflies” take their cue and know it is time to move a few steps forward, while others take a little bit of reminding and encouraging by the teacher who remains, calm, cool, collected, and smiling throughout the entire performance.

Once the teacher has moved all of her butterflies closer to the front of the stage, then the audience applauds the accomplishment loudly and the adorable factor is raised by ten. All of the girls begin singing along loudly with the song. They move their arms to go along with the words and tap dance (mostly in unison) along with the music.

Getting new dancers on the stage always comes with a few slip ups. Sometimes, they’re simply a little out of step. Other times, they forget what the next move is and have to stop for a moment to watch the other children before catching on.

Despite it all, the butterflies and their teacher did an amazing job. However, it reminds us of another dance recital that didn’t go quite as smoothly, with some hilariously adorable results.

This time, only four girls were present on the stage, each clad in a blue dress and a sparkly hair bow.

As the music began, three of the four began to dance. However, the fourth simply froze on stage. With arms crossed and completely still, her eyes went back and forth between the audience and the other dancers.

The audience clapped, encouraged, and sometimes laughed as the dance continued and the girl at the end simply failed to begin. At one point in the choreographed dance, the other three girls joined hands. When one reached her hand out to the girl at the end, she was simply greeted with a dead stare. Confused at first, she eventually just continued the dance with the others.

The girl at the end remained in her spot, not moving, right up until the end. Now, that is one very obvious case of stage fright. We hope she recovered and that her next recital will go a little smoother.
