As much as we enjoy a good street performance did you know that buskers aren’t very much liked in Indonesia, for example?
Their music doesn’t get the respect it potentially deserves.
Most of us will agree that busking is a great sort of entertainment, and we dare you not to get goosebumps after hearing Eko from Indonesia performing “Wish You Were Here.”
It’s not a luminous stage and he’s not holding an expensive Gibson, but we’re guessing you’ll remember this man for a long time.
From what we could have learned, the busker’s name is Eko, and he’s been living in Indonesia for the past few years.
There isn’t much information available about this talented man, but he clearly feels the music at such an impressive level that it almost seems unreal. Unfortunately, as we’ve been searching for more data, we stumbled upon the fact that Eko passed away in 2019. Rest in peace, friend—you’ve had an incredible life full of good music, laughter and joy. The video was filmed on a small island in Indonesia called Lombok, and was published by a man who randomly caught it on camera and felt impressed.
Eko traveled a lot, bringing music everywhere he went, and he spent most of his time in the Netherlands before coming back to Bali.
The video description is short and comments about Eko’s amazing fingerstyle.
Released in 1975, “Wish You Were Here” remains one of the greatest songs of all time.
English rock band Pink Floyd released the song as the title track of their 1975 Wish You Were Here album.
The band members stated that the song celebrates life and “freeing one’s self” to fully experience life. Eko seems to have lived the life he wanted, his wide smile gives him away. The grey hair might make you think it’s an old man, but his youthful spirit will soon convince you otherwise and you’ll hit the replay button more than once. We don’t know if it’s because of his beautiful voice, his amazing guitar skills or the fact that he has an undeniable charisma that draws you in.
We’re only certain of one thing: if Eko had wanted, he could have had an amazing musical career.
People are drawn to him, and you can clearly see it in the video.
On the other hand, keep in mind that buskers of Indonesia are considered to be a public disturbance there, and are regularly rounded up in police raids. Indonesian buskers are known as “pengamen,” and we feel sorry for those unfortunate people who have an amazing talent at the wrong place.
When Eko started singing, we were in shock—what a beautiful voice!
The man is proof that a book should never be judged by its cover. His smile in the end is precious, pure happiness.
Since the video was posted online, it has earned more than 10 million YouTube views.
Uploaded in 2016, the video has already accumulated millions of views and it makes us want to hear more of this genuine man who nailed the Pink Floyd sound.
We wish more people have filmed him when he performed on the streets of Indonesia, but even so, his voice lives on online where everyone can appreciate it. Whatever his background and life was, Eko is in a better place now where his angelic voice fits perfectly.
