One of the best things to happen to late night television is carpool karaoke – but it never actually takes place at night!
The Late Late Show with James Corden first debuted Carpool Karaoke in 2015. The first celebrity guest on the segment was Mariah Carey. On her episode, Mariah sang some of her biggest hits, like “Fantasy” and “Always Be My Baby.”
Since then, James Corden has had a whole slew of different celebrities on Carpool Karaoke, from Adele to Justin Bieber to One Direction to Lady Gaga and so many more. Even former First Lady Michelle Obama appeared in a Carpool Karaoke clip!
The segment is so popular, Apple Music picked it up for a TV series in 2016. There have been some truly incredible episodes over the years. The biggest of them all has been Adele’s, with over 180 million views on YouTube. But if we’re talking most entertaining? Bruno Mars would top the crowd.
Bruno Mars is one of the biggest entertainers in the world. He is beloved by people of all ages. Honestly, I don’t know who loves Bruno more, me or my mom! My aunt also is a top contender for his biggest fan.
Fans were pumped when it was revealed that Bruno would be second to last Carpool Karaoke segment of 2016. The person who was most excited for Bruno to come on the show (or get in the car, if we’re being exact) was the show’s host – James Corden!
James has since admitted that Bruno’s appearance was his favorite overall. However, as much as he loved having Bruno on, it actually left him feeling a little depressed.
While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, James got honest about the aftermath of working with Bruno Mars:
“Like, I really, I got a bit depressed afterwards. Because I’d been looking forward to it for so long and I’m such a fan. When we were done, I was like, ‘Oh. I’m not gonna get to do that again,’ you know, and so that was incredible.”
Even though James felt a little down after the episode, it was a smash hit. As if that comes as any surprise, pretty much anything Bruno does is successful.
Brunos segment is on the longer side, clocking in over 15 minutes. During the car ride, Bruno and James sing a variety of different Bruno tunes, like “24K Magic,” “Lock Out of Heaven,” “Grenade,” “Versace on the Floor,” “Uptown Funk,” “Perm,” and Brunp even sang some Elvis Presley, including “Jailhouse Rock.”
In between songs, James complimented Bruno’s style. James felt like he could never pull off half of the things that Bruno wears. To which Bruno told James to feel his shirt, it was silky smooth!
James made Bruno try on different hats to prove that Bruno could literally wear anything and look good. He was right!
While they were joking around, James asked Bruno in all seriousness when he first realized he wanted to become a performer. Apparently, Bruno has known since he was 4 years old!
“I was impersonating Elvis Presley in my dad’s 1950’s rock and roll revue in Waikiki!”
And when James asked him if he could do the famous Elvis lip, Bruno was able to deliver it perfectly. Any big Bruno Mars fan already knew this, though.
