Get a tissue…. several of them. Now that we’ve warned you, you’re about to watch a stunning display of grace and love during one of life’s toughest moments.
We all know funerals are sad, but they are even sadder when that funeral is for someone young and whose life was cut way too short.
There wasn’t a dry eye in the house during the touching ceremony that took place on the day Yvonne Lund Møller Petersen laid her 24-year son, Niels Paulsen, to rest.
Her son’s tragic passing came as a complete shock to family and friends but they found comfort in knowing that his organ donation helped give a new quality of life to seven to eight people. Niels family managed to find the strength to honor his life in a beautiful tribute during his funeral ceremony.
“My son, 24-years-old, died suddenly and in a very tragic way,” Yvonne wrote in a caption for a video on YouTube. “As a goodbye, his little sister and his father spoke at the funeral, and his little brother sang ‘You Raise Me Up” in his own version, where the second verse was dedicated to his brother.”
“You Raise Me Up,” a song originally composed by Norwegian duo Secret Garden, was made popular in the U.S. by Josh Groban.
However, Niels’ brother’s version was quite special. Niels’ brother grabs the microphone and begins to sing. His voice is a little quiet and shaky at first, but then his family places their hands on his back and shoulder and you can hear his voice grow stronger as he finds a little strength. His angelic voice is the perfect way to celebrate his brother’s life.
Many on YouTube commended the young man for being strong enough to sing the song.
“I’m sorry for your loss,” a YouTuber said. “Your son has some courage to get up and sing after his brother passed. Prayers for your family.”
Family members, both men and women, in the pews can be seen shedding tears and patting their faces dry with tissues.
They also comfort each other grabbing each other close and putting their arms around one another or rubbing each other’s shoulder.
This video is an amazing testament to how strong and loving a family really is and how they raise each other up during the darkest moments in their lives.
It’s really beautiful that this intimate moment was shared with the world and I feel lucky to have watched it and hope that you do too.
