As most of us know, it’s hard to hear on a plane because our ears are under pressure.

It happens whenever the pressure in a person’s head is greater than the pressure outside. An airplane’s take-off is a perfect example of such a situation. The eardrum expands outward, and you have that weird feeling in your ears.

That, however, wasn’t an obstacle for travelers on British Airways’ Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to Moscow.

Those lucky flyers were in for a big surprise when ballet dancers appeared out of nowhere and pioneered a ballet show on a plane. British Airways was the first to organize a ballet musical on one of their airplanes at 41,000 feet—more than 50 kilometers above the earth. It first happened in 2016, on a flight from London Heathrow to Moscow.

Since an airplane has never been used as a stage before, no one expected such a treat.

This is how you turn the first class into the supreme class in just a couple of minutes. Interestingly, Dreamliner weekly flights have eight seats in first class. That’s almost two times less than the usual 14, and it leaves plenty of space for such a performance in the sky.

We bet that ballet dancers never expected to be dancing on the clouds, so to speak, but it happened—and everyone was mesmerized.

Welsh songstress Katherine Jenkins led the Bolshoi Theater ballet dancers through one of the most original performances of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow.”

Singing it on a plane is probably the closest to rainbow that The Wizard of Oz soundtrack ever got.

For those who don’t know, the Bolshoi Theater is one of the main symbols of the Russian state and its culture.

“We are honored to unite the heart and soul of classical Russian culture with an iconic British brand such as British Airways in this performance on board,” said Artemy Neyakov, a leading soloist from the Bolshoi Theater.

Having these words in mind, we can only imagine how exciting it was for the performers and the airplane audience alike. Katherine Jenkins, who was the lead singer, is a Welsh mezzo-soprano, and she’s known for performing operatic arias, popular songs and hymns.

In 2014, Jenkins was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire.

For more information about this incredible artist, visit her official website. Dressed in white, dancers have certainly delivered a show to remember. More than a million YouTube users have already seen it, and we must also mention just how much the staff enjoyed it. Those happy faces are priceless.

Though this was a way for British Airlines to promote themselves, we love the artistic approach they took!

Since then, this sky act has become a habit, and several other airlines have added it as well.

We can only imagine how challenging it must be to balance on the tip of your toes on a flying plane. It only proves that artists are always ready to test themselves and push their boundaries.
