Your wedding day is supposed to be the most beautiful day of your life, and it usually also the most memorable one. The newlyweds Tricia and Neil will certainly agree, as their Catholic wedding ceremony suddenly got interrupted by a noise coming from the back of the church.
It turns out that there was a ‘flashmob conspiracy’.
Guests wanted to sing a beautiful rendition of “How Great Thou Art,” and even the priest was in on the whole thing.
Flash mobs have certainly risen in popularity over the past few years, but a flashmob during a wedding is certainly not something you see every day.
This one, though, is more unique than most.
Although you could argue that most people knew this was going to happen, only the bride and groom-to-be had no idea that there was a whole plan worked out. If you’re still not so sure what a flash mob is, it is basically a gathering of people in a public place to perform something, usually a dance.
Someone films the entire thing and posts it on the internet so that it can be later shared on social media, hoping for it to blow up and go viral.
Judging by the traction this video gained, we’d say it worked.
This wedding flash mob is certainly one of the more original ones out there!
Tricia and Neil Swan were expecting that their ceremony would go normally, but their friends and family had other plans in store from them. If you’ve never witnessed a Catholic wedding before, you’ll notice that they’re quite different from secular or Protestant ones.
For starters, the latter may contain a lot of religious readings and overtones, but it’s really the Catholic ones that tend to take up a lot of time. There’s a whole mass planned, which is in addition to the exchange of vows.
Catholic wedding ceremonies also have the tendency to be a little bit more controlled and stoic, which makes this flash mob all the more special.
Wedding ceremonies can certainly be exciting, and this flash mob video is proof of that.
A plan was doctored out with family and friends, and wedding videographer Simon Barr from Ireland captured the whole spectacle.
“Every wedding is unique – the people, the venues, the atmosphere – every couple has a different story to tell,” he writes on his website Simon Barr Wedding Films.
The video on YouTube starts with the bride and the groom in front of the altar, and then the priest starts singing the beautiful hymn lyrics of “How Great Thou Art”.
Nothing out of the ordinary for now, but then there’s a noise from the back row. Someone stands up, a guest from the wedding – and they simply sing along to the song.
After the first man stands up, it doesn’t take long before another guest hops off their seat and joins the song.
One after another, guests stand up and head toward the altar to form a choir.
When all of the male guests who were in on the flashmob gathered together to form a choir, female guests also started doing the exact same thing. First, one woman started singing, shortly after, another joined.
Before the bride and groom knew it, they were surrounded by two beautiful choirs!
Tricia and Neil were taken aback at the beautiful moment unfolding at their wedding, as you can see by their teary eyes.
When the song ends, everyone rises to their feet to give a standing ovation.
This definitely isn’t your average flash mob, but it’s one that the internet absolutely loves. There are more than eight million views on YouTube alone!
