When one thinks of breakdancing many people’s minds go straight to city streets, boomboxes, cardboard laying on the ground, and hip-hop music.

This is because that is the roots of breakdancing. Yet, as what happens with many types of dance, breakdancing has evolved over time. One dance group that has helped create a new style of breakdancing is the DDC Breakdance. These dancers have taken the original style of breakdancing and have melded it with other forms of dance such as acrobatic dance.

Nothing stays the same forever and breakdancing is thankfully not the exception because DDC Breakdance dancers have created fun, original and beautiful dances.

Breakdancing was created during 1970s in New York City’s South Bronx neighborhood. Break-dancers were called B-boys and B-girls. Breakdancing started with dancers creating improvisational moves with high energy and creative movements and steps.

Breakdancing was, “…born when street corner DJ’s (in legend it is DJ Kool Herc who was first) would take the breakdown sections (or “breaks”) of dance records and string them together or loop them without any elements of the song per se. This provided a raw rhythmic base for improvising and further mixing, and it allowed dancers to display their skills during the break.”

The signature breakdance moves that started on the streets of NYC, such as the windmill, head spin, jackhammer, and head slide, to only name a few, are now known worldwide.

The DDC Breakdance crew started in 1999 in Germany when a group of breakdancing friends realized their shared passion in breakdancing. Their website states,

“A group of teenagers followed their dream: dancing. The perfect basis for artistic ideas is to build upon creativity and energy. This led to early achievements within the dance crew. Powermoves, top rocking and footworks – the positive energy during practice and the urge of achieving set goals gathered the crew together. The maxim is: Let’s break the dance!”

Two of those dancers are Alex, a dancer and choreographer, and Felice, a dancer and artist.

Alex and Felice performed an acrobatic/breakdancing routine that highlighted the continuing expansion of breakdancing. The song that the duo dance to was created specifically for the two dancers and Felice was the artist to sing the song for the dance.

The ability to create a breakdancing/acrobatic dance routine to the melody and beat of a slow song is beautiful.

When describing breakdancing the last word that many would think to use is graceful, but that is what this dance routine is. It is beautifully graceful.

Alex and Felice are able to show off their breakdancing skills, but at the same time dance beautifully in tune with each other. The strength of these two dancers is unbelievable. Felice’s flexibility and dance moves seem inhuman because they are so quick and completed with such ease and grace. Alex is right alongside her the entire time showing off his strength and talent as he performs his moves and ability to move Felice so quickly.

The end of the routine is when the acrobatic dance moves shine. Felice is attached to a wire to dance above Alex, even with Felice in the sky her and Alex are still move as one. At certain moments it almost looks as if Felice is flying above Alex. These two dancers were meant to dance this performance together. They are so beautiful and in unison you can feel their energy, even though you are watching it through a screen.

Bravo, Bravo.
