If you’ve seen “Pitch Perfect”, then one of the songs you can easily identify from the film is “The Cup Song” sung by Beca (played by Anna Kendrick) as she auditions for the Bardon Bellas. In the scene, she uses an actual cup as percussion while she sings. After the release of the film, many fans proceeded to do their own version of the short but catchy audition piece.
“Pitch Perfect” was released back in 2012 but fans still love “The Cup Song” to this day.
That’s why this mom from Newport, Tennessee decided to make her own version and share it online. You’ll love her singing voice and how perfectly timed the hand clapping and cup moving is. It’s not an easy number to copy yet she managed to do it so well.
You’ll also crack up at her ten-year-old son’s antics!
He did exactly what any goofy, ten-year-old boy would do. He decided to video bomb his mom and basically take over the performance.
Cinna Hembree was just by the kitchen, minding her own business, singing and recording. You know, unwinding and enjoying some “me time”.
Everything was going well: the place was quiet, she was moving the cup, clapping, and singing without missing a beat. She was looking so relaxed, too.
Until her son, Tucker, decided to go fetch himself some juice and in the process, decide to make a not-so-subtle cameo.
He starts off pretty innocent, too. Noticing her son come in from either upstairs or another room, Cinna just gave a quick glance towards his direction and continued singing.
Tucker kept looking over at his mom as he took a jug of juice from the refrigerator and set it on the counter. He opened it, took a swig (he saw his chance – that Cinna was too busy singing to call him out for drinking straight out of the jug), and that’s about the time he got his brilliant idea.
The mischievous ten-year-old walked over to Cinna, stood right behind her, and began dancing.
She wasn’t minding him at first until his dancing got crazier by the minute. We’re talking shoulder pops and flailing arms matched with goofy facial expressions!
Cinna didn’t know whether to scold him or laugh.
Watch closely as her facial expressions change from confused to annoyed, to amused. Amazingly though, she still finished singing despite the major distraction going on.
Tucker, not quite satisfied with the dancing, decided to take things a little further by lifting his shirt above his head and wiggling his hips from side to side.
You’ve got to hand it to Cinna – she stayed focused in spite of Tucker’s antics!
It wasn’t until she finished singing that she looked at him and laughingly asked, “Was that necessary?”
Cinna shares,
“I was just recording myself singing because I was bored, it’s something I do quite often, so Tucker is used to doing things like this. He’s extremely funny and always goofing off. I’m so used to him being funny and silly that it didn’t knock my focus to begin with, I just let him continue doing his thing.”
The good-natured mom explains how this kind of goofing off is normal at home and how she and Tucker are always messing with each other.
Tucker sure gave everyone a good laugh with his attempts to upstage Cinna.
