When 7-year-old Robbie took the stage for Britain’s Got Talent, he wanted to make sure his family was very proud of him.
In particular, he really wanted to do something nice for his aunt.
His mother, grandmother, and aunt all attended the show with him, and Robbie was not going to let them down.
“I want to make my family the proudest family there has ever been,” Robbie said to the judges before the show.
That’s a lofty goal. Throughout the course of history, there have been plenty of families who have been proud of their young kids.
Still, that was Robbie’s goal and he was taking it seriously.
Robbie marched on stage with the type of confidence very few seven-year-olds have.
He told the judges he felt he could win the competition and also tried to set his aunt up on a date with Judge Louis.
Not a bad start, Robbie, not a bad star.
Robbie did it his way
Robbie belted out a song made famous by Frank Sinatra, albeit one that doesn’t particularly apply to a seven-year-old: My Way.
It doesn’t make a lot of sense to hear a seven-year-old sing about having led a full life, but Robbie sings with such conviction and passion that he makes it work.
My Way was originally a French song with a different meaning
The song was originally recorded in French and titled Comme D’Habitude.
It was a big hit in parts of Europe after being released in 1967.
That version of the song tells the story of an old man, far older than seven, whose marriage was ending due to boredom.
Over the years, many musicians have put their own spin on “My Way.”
Since being popularized by Sinatra, artists such as Tom Jones, Andy Williams, Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick, and even Elvis Presley have recorded their own versions.
Even the punk band The Sex Pistols recorded a version of the song in 1979.
Paul Anka changes the lyrics to Comme D’Habitude
Anka changed the lyrics of the song upon returning to New York from France and pitched it to Sinatra.
Instead of being about a man reflecting on a crumbling marriage, he changed it to be about an old man at the end of his life reflecting on how he lived.
Robbie makes his family very proud
While it’s not clear if the boy’s aunt did end up on a date with Judge Louis, Robbie certainly did his family proud by scoring three “yeses” from the judges and earning a standing ovation from the crowd.
A video of Robbie’s performance has also gone viral online.
It’s been viewed 19.7 million times on YouTube and has received more than 115K ‘likes.’
Not bad for a youngster who undoubtedly was born to be a star!
